Job Description
Job Posting

Bose is looking for an Acoustics Engineer to help us with the next big thing - a new business to help millions of people live healthier and more engaged lives. You will be a key member of our cross functional team, working closely with your Bose engineering colleagues. You'll join a team of talented engineers and technicians developing a family of new Wellness products that will improve people's lives in ways they didn't imagine possible.

At Bose, we've spent 54 years finding new ways to bring quality audio products to people-in their homes, in automobiles, in airplanes, on the sidelines and just about anywhere else that's possible to delight customers with the benefits of our technology. Our legendary QuietComfortacoustic noise cancelling headphones, SoundLinkBluetooth speakers, professional audio systems, automobile sound systems, and headphones and headsets for the NFL may ring a bell with you. Bose relies on exceptional people to create and deliver those products to our customers.

We are stretching our vision and obsessive approach to providing customer benefit by improving people's lives in fundamentally new ways beyond audio entertainment. This new business will leverage new-to-the-world technologies, along with academic and corporate partnerships, and translate them into compelling consumer experiences that make a difference-as we've done with our new Noise-masking Sleepbud(TM). We are working on additional experiences and products that we believe will resonate just as strongly with consumers. Our group has the bold attitude and energy of a start-up with the financial backing and market leadership of a world-class brand.

As a member of our team, you will design, validate and optimize systems that require miserly economy of size, power and cost while delivering aspirational experiences. This is a unique opportunity to do the most creative and impactful work of your career.

If you enjoy making a real impact on a growing business and the world, and you enjoy working on teams with other really smart people, then we want to meet you.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and test audio-based health products in collaboration with cross-discipline engineering teams
  • Develop acoustic system designs to achieve product performance requirements
  • Use simulation tools to predict acoustic system behavior
  • Define, build, and characterize physical prototypes of acoustic systems
  • Conduct acoustic measurements of components, subsystems, and full assemblies and perform thorough analysis of results
  • Develop and define novel acoustic test methods as needed to improve understanding of acoustic behaviors
  • Work directly with DSP and controls engineers to tune and optimize system performance
  • Clearly communicate results through informal peer reviews as well as presenting at formal design reviews
  • Define, specify, and validate production test equipment and processes
  • Support prototype and production system builds both on-location at the factory and remotely
  • Collaborate with JDM partners to develop and validate manufacturing assembly procedures to meet product performance requirements
  • Troubleshoot acoustic failures and recommend design changes to prevent future occurrences
  • Provide inputs to program leadership on design maturity, schedule, and risk level

Qualifications:

  • BS required in Acoustical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, MS preferred
  • 3+ years of direct acoustic design experience of high performance wearable or portable audio products
  • 2+ years of hands-on acoustic test experience
  • Skilled in acoustic lumped element modeling
  • Strong knowledge of headphone acoustic structures and enclosure/porting design
  • Basic understanding of transducer design, micro drivers, ECM, and MEMS microphones
  • Strong understanding of acoustic test and measurement systems and techniques
  • Experience using acoustic test equipment from B&K, GRAS, Audio Precision, National Instruments, Listen Inc. (SoundCheck), and others
  • Experience verifying performance of acoustic components including drivers, microphones, and acoustic meshes
  • Familiarity with acoustic array design for communications mic systems, beamforming, speech processing, acoustic echo cancellation, and voice activity detection
  • Competent using Matlab for data analysis and visualization
  • Experience with active noise cancellation technology and standard audio DSP algorithms is highly desirable
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Comfortable reading detailed technical specifications
  • Knowledge of psychoacoustics and speech quality evaluation
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing constraints and requirements, while maintaining the highest performance standards
  • Critical Listening skills with a passion for music and audio quality
