Responsible for the safety and operation of a general aviation reliever category airport for the benefit of the University, the City of Norman and central Oklahoma.
  • Assist in operations, maintenance and minor repairs of airport facilities, grounds and equipment. Maintains airport records related to daily inspections, NOTAMs & hazards to air navigation (FAA for 7460s)
  • Maintains and preforms minor repairs and/or maintenance on airport equipment such as airport signs, airfield lighting, windsock, AWOS hangars & other facilities.
  • Acts as a daily contact between airport administrator & contractors working on the airport. Assures contractors are aware of and adheres to establish safety standard. Implantation of training for contractor, landscaping and hay bailing.
  • Aids in the enforcement of Airport Rules & Regulations.
  • Coordinates activities relating to airport operations, as needed with other Universitys Departments and State and federal agencies.
  • Oversee wildlife mitigation strategies in accordance with USDA contact.
  • Willing to work irregular hours as required, including nights, weekends, and/o holidays.
  • Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Education: Bachelors degreeor equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND

  • 24 monthsof related airport experience in the ability to operate and maintain the facilities


  • Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions
  • Basic computer skills
  • Read and understand complex written materials such as blueprints, metrics or technical manuals
  • Ability to communicate directly with aeronautical users concerning airport operations to enforces federal, state, and local directives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty and staff
  • Demonstrate ability to meet and deal with the public.
  • Strong initiative to solve problems
  • Able to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives
  • Customer service
  • Must be able to read and interpret policy as well as State and Federal regulations
  • Use tools and equipment required to perform job duties.


  • Valid driver's license to drive airport vehicles

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to engage in repetitive motions and communicate including expressing oneself or exchanging information with others.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects including using upper body to raise objects from a lower position to a higher position (15 to 50 pounds).
Departmental Preferences:
  • Airport Management, Business Administration, Business Management, or related field
  • Ability to communicate directly with aeronautical users concerning airport operations to enforce federal, state, and local directives.
  • Private pilot license desired.
  • C.M. certification desired
