This position is located in Cincinnati, Ohio



The mission of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) is to provide statewide leadershipof a high-quality mental health and addiction prevention, treatment and recovery system that is effective and valued by all Ohioans.



***Hours of Work:8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday | Some Saturdays required - approx once every six weeks***



Provides alcohol & other drug dependency counseling services & resourcesto substance abuse mentally ill (SAMI) patients: conducts in-depth interview & evaluation of patient's substance abuse problems, counsels patients, screen & refer chemically dependent patients to other available & appropriate treatment modalities & alternative programs, delivers direct patient services (e.g., generates & implements special programming, facilitates group & individual therapy, educates patient on topic related curricula to heighten awareness & provide motivation techniques aimed at continuing treatment, provides overall case management & crisis intervention, develops treatment plans in accordance with principles of therapeutic community & ensures compliance with applicable standards & regulations (e.g., Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals Organization JC, Medicaid/Medicare..).




Monitors treatment: monitor & measure progress of patients in treatment, determines goals & objectives consistent with treatment plans, promotes self help & determines immediate & short term consequences for negative behavior, defines special needs & provides input to treatment team for formulation into treatment plan, attends & participates in treatment team meetings (e.g., prepares case presentations, submits agenda items..), maintains data & supportive materials for clinical case records/files.

Performs related miscellaneous duties & completes related paperwork: complete & maintain documentation (e.g., assessments, treatment plans, crisis interventions..) chart progress notes, writes monthly reports & completes forms as required, consults with RPH personnel on substance abuse/mental illness issues & patients, maintains contact with community groups for referral & educational resources, attends training conferences & staff meetings, operates personal computer to enter, edit & retrieve data to create reports & correspondence.

Unusual working conditions:May work weekends; may be exposed to communicable diseases and unpredictable patient behavior.

Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor credential recognized by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board or other Ohio licensing authority with jurisdiction over professionals authorized to provide counseling services (e.g., Medical Board; Psychology Board; Nursing Board; Counselor & Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board); valid driver's license.
