Application Engineers (AE) in Schneider Electric are highly motivated and pragmatic individuals who demonstrate excellent communication skills coupled with deep technical knowledge of the customer process as well as the Schneider Electric offer. They can understand complex industrial problems and can overcome diverse obstacles to develop and realize creative and effective solutions.

This position involves developing applications using Schneider Electric's Ecostruxure Advisors in industrial automation settings. EcoStruxure is Schneider Electric's IoT-enabled, plug-and-play, open architecture and platform. Advisors are software modules within the platform.

The ideal candidate will have experience with software configuration in industrial automation or manufacturing environments. The AE will work directly with the customer throughout each project to help deliver results. They may join the sales team as a consultant to help understand the requirements and design each solution. The AE will install the software packages and configure them with all site-specific data. After configuration and application development, the AE will commission the system onsite or remotely and train users as needed. The AE will work alongside a Project Manager throughout the process.

Because these are newer products, it is not expected that the AE already has experience with them. The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who is used to problem solving and looking to become a subject matter expert. Depending on qualifications, the candidate may get a chance to work on other SCADA and Smart Factory initiatives as well.

The three main Advisors that the AE will be trained on are:

  • Augmented Operator Advisor - Improves operational efficiency with augmented reality, enabling operators to superimpose current data and documentation onto a cabinet, machine, or plant via their tablet's camera.
  • Machine Advisor - A digital cloud-based services platform. Machine builders can include it to provide new remote services to their customers as they deploy their machines worldwide.
  • Secure Connect Advisor - A secure access method to allows operators to remotely access industrial automation systems. Once they are connected, they can program and monitor devices.

As experts, applicants for this position exhibit the following strengths:
  • Systems Integration or Software Configuration expertise
  • Industrial Automation or Manufacturing domain expertise
  • Excellent communication skills, gaining customer trust, and collaborating with other engineers
  • Technical expertise of HMI/SCADA systems preferred
  • Commissioning and testing proficiency

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work in conjunction with sales to consult with the customer and gather requirements and data
  • This may include collecting documents, drawings, programs, and taking high-quality photographs
  • Design a solution within the confines of the Schneider Electric offer
  • Develop site-specific Ecostruxure applications using the 3 core Industrial Automation Advisors:
    • Augmented Operator Advisor
    • Machine Advisor
    • Secure Connect Advisor
  • Server setup and software configuration onsite
  • Establish communications to onsite devices and cloud-based servers
  • Commission the system onsite
  • Train operators on the use of the system and monitor for opportunities to improve
  • Version Control
  • Attend internal and customer design meetings
  • Collaborate and succeed within a diverse team
  • Use QA/QC tools and processes to ensure high quality deliverables

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of experience implementing, troubleshooting, and commissioning software applications
  • Experience working on Industrial Automation or Manufacturing applications
  • Experience programming HMI or SCADA applications preferred
  • Experience configuring cloud-based software preferred
  • Experience in Node-RED programming or other IoT languages or protocols preferred
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting industry standard communication protocols such as OPC, and Modbus TCP/IP
  • Knowledgeable in computer networking architectures, topologies, and hardware
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft operating systems and software applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Team oriented, self-motivated, and results driven
  • Strong problem solving and detective skills
  • Ability to multi-task and handle conflicting priorities
  • Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high quality solutions
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites up to 50%

This position requires presence at customer sites, and as such, candidate must be able to obtain necessary clearance and/or credentials to travel abroad and comply with customer requirements for executing work on their site. The types of credentials that might be required include, but are not limited to, passports, Homeland Security clearance, drug and alcohol, background, and credit checks, etc.
