Boise Cascade is looking for an Assistant Controller at a Building Materials Distribution location. We distribute building materials to our customers and our activities center around respect and relationships with our associates, customers and vendors.

What is an Assistant Controller responsible for? What does a typical day look like?

The Assistant Controller is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day accounting activities at the location, including account reconciliation and overseeing accounts payable, invoicing, and receiving. They will be responsible for conducting ad-hoc business analysis at the request of the controller and general manager to help assess trends and opportunities for improvement. This position works very closely with the controller, will have regular interaction with the management team at the location and exposure to our corporate accounting team. We are looking for a candidate that can fulfill these job responsibilities and also begin a training program to become well versed in many of the location controller responsibilities, so they can be a strong candidate for future advancement.

  • Perform general accounting and financial analysis activities.
  • Prepare Journal Entries.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Analyze branch metrics and provide financial analysis and recommendations to the business.
  • Assist in month end closing functions.
  • Provide assistance and training to associates.
  • Prepare, complete, analyze and report accounting transactions.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with customers and associates.
  • Focus of responsibilities may be to perform accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, credit and collection, sales rebate duties.
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Degree in accounting and 3 years accounting experience.
  • Requires excellent communication skills and demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of MS Excel, and 365.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic knowledge of the building materials industry preferred.
  • Proficient in utilizing PC software applications necessary for performing job responsibilities.
