In this newly created role, the Associate Director, Supply Chain and Logistics is responsible for providing strategic direction and operational management surrounding all transportation activities within the organization. This includes the management of PTCs relationships with logistics providers, couriers and brokers to ensure materials are delivered to sites in a timely manner while adhering to applicable domestic and international compliance-related regulations.

The Associate Director, Supply Chain and Logistics leads a team and provides guidance and support while leveraging the teams logistics expertise.

The incumbent works cross-functionally with internal departments and external resources on supply chain and logistics-related issues.

The Associate Director, Supply Chain and Logistics supports adherence to relevant regulatory requirements and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as appropriate.

Primary duties/responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership for transportation-related activities. This includes, but may not be limited to, the following:
    • Manages logistic flows of work in progress (WIP) and finished products.
    • Assesses and recommends shipping methods, routes and carriers to meet necessary parameters.
    • Provides guidance and support to team on shipments and required documentation.
    • Strives to maintain low transportation costs by negotiating rates with carriers

  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and mitigate risks.

  • Reviews contract terms and suggests contract amendments where beneficial.

  • Establishes transportation logs to comply with all import/export regulations.

  • Supports launch activities in relation to new territory entry. This includes, but may not be limited to, contract support, determination of territory requirements, authoring of appropriate documentation and support of activities for preparation for launch into these territories.

  • Manages 3rd Party Logistics organizations (3PLs) to support product supply and maintain appropriate levels of commercial inventory.

  • Provides leadership for transportation requirements including vendor oversight, determination of optimum route of transportation for territories, cost efficiency activities and continuous improvement activities.

  • Contributes to supporting customs, tax and finance requirements particularly when related to new territory set up.

  • Contributes to the development of supply chain processes. Works collaboratively and cross-functionally to implement and continuously improve processes relating to supply chain activities, authoring relevant documents when request to support these activities.

  • Measures Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive performance for on-time and full-delivery performance.

  • Works with Logistics team in Dublin, Ireland to share best practices and build consistent processes

  • Supports other members of the Supply Chain function as requested to meet clinical and commercial requirements.

  • Performs other tasks and assignments as needed and specified by management.

  • Manages, coaches, and mentors direct reports.

* Minimum level of education and years of relevant work experience.

  • Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, or other related discipline, and a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in logistics or supply chain in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, CMO or related environment OR equivalent experience and/or education

* Special knowledge or skills needed and/or licenses or certificates required.

  • Demonstrated experience and expertise with shipments of pharmaceuticals, commercial distribution, 3PL management, and import/export documentation to comply with all regulations.

  • Hands-on experience with supply network, demand and supply planning, production/inventory planning, and transportation.

  • Thorough working knowledge of the logistics and supply chain processes/procedures.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of global customs requirements.

  • Demonstrated expertise interacting with Logistics providers, and other external partners.

  • Working knowledge of GMPs and GDPs in a pharmaceutical environment.

  • Ability to influence without direct authority.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Hands on experience with a Supply Chain management ERP system

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as required, in a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment consisting of internal and external team members.

  • Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience managing, coaching and mentoring direct reports.
