The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Cizik School of Nursing invites nominations and applications for the Education Endowed Distinguished Professorship . This position is reserved for tenured Associate or Professor faculty who demonstrate expertise in education research. The incumbent is expected to be a recognized academic leader who will promote intellectual and ethical leadership in education research to advance the science of nursing and healthcare education.

While we are open to a broad range of areas of expertise, we have particular interest in candidates whose work focuses on the intersection of research and education. Although candidates must demonstrate a commitment to quality teaching and service, this distinguished professorship is reserved for those concentrated in the advancement of education research.

Position Key Accountabilities:

The position collaborates with Endowed Chairs, the Director of the Cizik Nursing Research Institute, the Associate Dean for Research, and the Dean to advance the research mission and goals of the Cizik School of Nursing and the Cizik Nursing Research Institute. This position functions administratively within the Board of Regents, UTHealth Science Center, and the Cizik School of Nursing Policies and Procedures.

The faculty in this position is responsible for the design, execution, and procurement of funding of education research in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Faculty in this position must maintain the values espoused by the institution and school and promote excellent in the areas of the mission.

The Professor will:
-Maintain a minimal teaching load concentrated on PhD and DNP courses and committees.
-Train and advise graduate and postdoctoral students.
Maintain a significant research portfolio supported by extramural funding.
-Identify and respond to education related health care issues that need to be addressed through curriculum development, research, practice, and community service.
-Facilitate the professional development of the Research Institute faculty and CSON research faculty including growth for promotion and tenure.
-Establish sustained relationships within the Texas Medical Center to broaden
the scope of the Cizik Nursing Research Institute.


The successful candidate should have an earned doctorate in Nursing, Medicine, Education, Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, or equivalent field and a strong record of significant research funding with preference given to those with federal funding. Experience in a senior public or education sector or similar accomplishments and leadership are valuable, although not a requirement. This is an indefinite, senior faculty position and the candidate is expected to meet the standards for appointment at the academic rank of a tenured Associate or Professor.

Additional Information:

This position is endowed annually to support the holder's research. This is an exempt, full-time position. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance/403(b) retirement plan.
