Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for routine component production, testing, and labeling of donor blood and blood products. This position is responsible for assisting the supervisor with training and work-flow coordination of laboratory employees.


  • Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. Is responsible for bringing compliance issues to the attention of management.

  • Assures quality customer service to all customers.

  • Performs special studies and projects, as assigned.

  • Performs moderate complexity testing, as assigned.

  • Assists with training and laboratory workflow coordination.

  • Prepares all blood components, performs labeling and quarantine, as required.

  • Assures all quality control standards and procedures are performed and documented.

  • Maintains accurate records and documentation of production and testing. Performs data entry and review of production records.

  • Participates in hiring and performance appraisal processes. Identifies personnel performance issues and participates in effective resolution.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment. Notifies appropriate personnel if additional service is needed.

  • Assists in deviation management process.

  • Performs all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.



  • High School graduate or GED required.

  • CLIA equivalent for moderate complexity testing required.

Licenses/ Certifications



One year laboratory experience required.


  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be detail oriented and possess strong communication, organization, analytical, and decision making skills and be able to comprehend and apply clinical laboratory procedures and theory.

  • Must possess leadership and human resources skills.

  • Able to maintain donor, patient and employee confidentiality.

  • Must possess basic keyboarding skills and the ability to handle and operate laboratory equipment.

  • Able to work flexible shifts and overtime when necessary.
