PPG is seeking a Chemical Process Engineer to serve in a key role providing leadership and expertise in the manufacturing of industrial paints and coatings in production of automotive coatings at our plant here in Circleville, Ohio. You will work throughout the site in the areas of paint processing, pigment dispersion, and production test methodologies that drive the continuous improvement of product quality and manufacturing efficiency. You will be a member of a broad team tasked with leading the plant to meet or exceed Key Performance Indicators, such as safety performance, material utilization improvements, and cost per unit.

The Process Engineer will work closely with the production operators, supervisors, technical, and maintenance staffs to conduct root cause problem solving initiatives and respond to changes in commercial requirements. The successful Process Engineer will strive to find solutions to complex problems and complete projects on time and within budget to meet commercialization goals.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a thorough understanding of polymer/organic chemistry and basic knowledge of chemical plant unit operations (i.e. batch reactors, heat transfer, process control) and chemical plant equipment operations (i.e. pumps, piping, tanks, heat exchangers).

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the quality of and continuously improve manufacturing methods from raw material receipt to customer delivery to ensure all customer requirements are met
  • Provide technical responsibility for the proper operation of reactor systems to ensure compliance with established safety standards, customer requirements and automotive quality
  • Provide technical responsibility for the scale-up of new products and assures quality systems are in place for process changes to existing products
  • Use Lean methodologies, the process engineer also identifies opportunities, recommends solutions and implements corrective actions to help meet plant safety, cost and productivity objectives
  • Develop complete and accurate production logs that ensure safe and effective procedures for producing quality products
  • Complete daily technical review and Oracle processing of finished production batches
  • Assist in the development and presentation of training programs for operators and other department personnel

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or other physical science discipline
  • At least two (2) years of process engineering and process/production experience required

Preferred Qualification / Experiences (in addition to Required Qualifications):
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma
  • Experience with batch manufacturing
  • OSHA Process Safety Management
  • Paint Manufacturing and/or Pigment Dispersion Science; related process knowledge will also be considered
