Commercial Lines Account Manager - Middle Peninsula Insurance

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Determine appropriate renewal strategies including marketing renewals and revising policies if necessary; this may require meeting with clients face to face

  • Verify that all renewal policies are renewed on time

  • Be responsible for 100% of all transactions of assigned accounts; including but not limited to: processing endorsements, payments, cancellations, filing claims, answering billing questions, re-quoting policies, and attaching all activities in Applied Epic

  • Take true ownership of the accounts in your department and independently solve client issues

New Business

  • Assist with the sales process by quoting the prospects with our carriers and providing assistance in the carrier selection process

  • Negotiate with the carriers to secure the most beneficial terms for our clients

  • Perform the necessary follow up to ensure timely receipt of quotations and policies

  • Prepare summaries of insurance, schedules and proposals as needed

  • Work with the appropriate producers to issue binders, evidence of insurance, policies, and other related items; verify their accuracy and forward them to client when appropriate


  • Process incoming mail, e-mail and phone requests from clients and respond promptly and appropriately

  • Work the receptionists desk when necessary

  • Assist other team members to ensure proper customer service

  • Work with other team members to constantly upgrade workflows, procedures and techniques

  • Perform any other duties as requested by management

Personal & Organizational

  • Set priorities and manage work flow to ensure efficient, timely and accurate processing of transactions and other responsibilities

  • Maintain a cordial and effective relationship with clients, co-workers, carriers, vendors and other business contacts

  • Keep informed regarding industry information, new product information, legislation, coverages and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance

  • Interact with others effectively by utilizing good communications skills, cooperating purposefully and providing information and guidance, as needed, to achieve the business goals of the agency

Minimum Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Ability to analyze complex insurance situations, needs and options and communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear, concise manner

  • Ability to understand written and oral communication and interpret abstract information

  • Have an advanced knowledge of insurance products and usages, insurance markets, underwriting procedures and insurance rating methods

  • Have strong computer skills with the ability to use such tools as Outlook, Excel, Word and Applied Epic

  • Ability to manage complex issues for our commercial lines accounts and manage the account fully

  • Ability to work independently and take the lead on all elements of client servicing

  • Minimum 5 years insurance experience

  • Virginia Property and Casualty License

Desired Skills & Competencies:

  • Industry designations such as ACSR a plus

  • Four year college degree preferred
