Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive quality Commissioning Supervisor to Proterras Quality Manager, and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for providing a full range of Quality solutions to client groups at the site and be in an environment where you can have a greater impact.

About the Role You will:

  • Manage all Commissioning and post-Commissioning activities; Supervise the Commissioning lead and provide frequent feedback and mentoring.

  • Ensure the safety of all employees in the department by enforcing safety policies and procedures; Provide leadership to ensure that 5S standards are maintained.

  • Work collaboratively with CPMs to schedule customer inspections, Quality Systems Engineers to document work instructions and procedures, and Manufacturing Engineering to recommend process and product improvements and error proofing opportunities.

  • Lead the customer inspection process; Record customer findings, facilitate the necessary repairs, follow-up with the inspector to get sign-off.

  • Schedule and lead the Certificate of Conformity process.

  • Collect the necessary quality documentation for the customer quality binders and assemble; Provide the necessary documentation to shipping to allow bus shipment.

  • Maintain all Commissioning and post-Commissioning records; Update standard measurable slides weekly.

  • Provide the daily status update at the plant start-up meeting; Present Commissioning, post-Commissioning and customer inspection data in the Corporate Quality meeting.

  • Drive the quality commissioning and post-Commissioning meeting; Work with all groups to identify the root cause for Commissioning issues and participate in determining permanent corrective actions.

  • Drive improvement in the timeliness and effectiveness of the Commissioning, post-Commissioning and customer inspection processes.

  • Ensure that all applicable reworks have been applied to all buses before customer inspection and shipment.

  • Determine production requirements (i.e., output quality and quantity, cost, time, labor requirements) by analyzing charts, work orders, production schedules; determine schedules, sequences and assignments for commissioning activities and confer with other Team Leaders to coordinate operations and activities within or between stations.

  • Support the hand off between production and quality between stations10 and 11. In partnership with the Production Manager, review open NCRs and Andons and concur on the timing for moving the bus into station 11.

  • Inspect all buses prior to customer inspection to ensure that they are ready. Utilize the final Assembly Checklist, previous inspection findings, rework lists and PDI findings to verify that issues found on previous buses in the contract have been corrected. Accompany the customer inspector and ensure that all findings are captured as Andons in Visual factory. Direct station personnel on repairs and verify with the customer inspector. Prepare all acceptance documentation Customer release, certificate of conformity, customer documentation books. Coordinate with logistics on bus shipments.

  • Review PDI reports for buses that have been delivered to the customer. Update checklists and inspection processes accordingly to prevent recurrence of these issues at the customer. As time allows, travel to customer locations to better understand customer specific issues and revise inspection processes accordingly.

  • Compile weekly KPIs for Customer Inspection, Commissioning Findings, End of line Findings and road mileage faults.

  • Establish a program to cross train technicians between stations 11 and 12. Maintain the skills matrix and training documents

  • Maintain associate labor tracking (i.e., payroll, time approval, tracking); initiates and administers 1st level of associate basis disciplinary / corrective action.

  • Recommend and implement initiatives (i.e., new techniques/products, purchase of new machinery, changes in staff levels); conducts or arranges training in job-related skills for associates.

  • Fill in for the Quality Manager/Director as required; Keep the Quality Manager/Director informed of all significant issues surrounding Commissioning, post-Commissioning and customer inspections.

  • Schedule daily and weekend overtime as necessary; Cover daily and weekend overtime as necessary.

  • Participate in the on-boarding of new employees to ensure that they are properly trained.

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • This position will be part of the Los Angeles, CA based Quality team that supports Proterras Manufacturing and Engineering operations in Los Angeles, CA.

  • You will report to the Quality Manager and collaborate with other Quality team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facility in Greenville, SC.

Your Experience Includes:

  • Associates Degree in Electronics or other applicable field of study or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years bus experience

  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience (able to develop others through goals, planning and coaching), preferably in automotive.

  • Experience in applying standards, leading a start-up and Commissioning team.

  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Capability in mechanical assembly verification for vehicle commissioning and reading engineering drawings and prints for vehicle commissioning processes.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills

  • Experience maintaining quality standards under minimal supervision and build the team and motivate the employees.

  • Experience developing, documenting and implementing quality processes and systems.

  • Knowledge and experience to be about to train future employees in the commissioning and quality processes.

  • Strong experience in quality and commissioning process for vehicle assembly.

  • Strong experience in electrical and mechanical verification tasks.

  • Technical experience for electrical and mechanical assembly operations.

  • Proficient in MS Office applications

  • Physical Demands:
    • May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations.

    • Lifting to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
