Position Summary:

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta seeks qualified candidates for the newly created position of Community and Economic Development (CED) Research Analyst position, with a specialization in engagement.

The CED program supports the Central Bank's monetary policy and bank supervisory functions and seeks to foster economic mobility and resilience among low- and moderate-income communities in the Southeast. We do this by conducting research and creating data tools, engaging stakeholders, and tracking and elevating issues facing the Southeast's lower-income residents.

The program's Engagement Analyst will support the department's work translating research into practice and on collecting economic intelligence pertinent to low-and middle-income households. The analyst will support the development of programming-including research, writing, events, and partnership development-that helps a diverse array of external audiences utilize the Federal Reserve's research and data to inform evidence-based and data-driven CED strategies. The analyst will also help support the tracking of community-level trends and industry trends to help identify emerging issues. Candidates should have familiarity with one or more of the program's topical areas of expertise (community development finance, small business and entrepreneurship, housing and neighborhoods, and workforce development and human capital), and strong project management, communications, and relationship building skills.

Prior experience working within the states of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's district (Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Tennessee) is also desired, as is at least 2 years of experience working in a relevant field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports project or research initiatives within the Reserve Bank that advance the department's mission and that of the Bank as a whole.
  • Monitors and collects information related to community and economic development issues from a variety of sources including trade publications, web-based news sources and computer databases.

  • Develops and maintains contact with other practitioners and researchers in the areas of community and economic development, as a source of information and data to support the department's agenda
  • Conducts applied research on community economic development issues. Produces original research reports on community development. Produces written reports and analyses for publication on department's website and in department's discussion papers, periodic newsletters, and external sources. These include original research, as well as conference or workshop summaries. Contributes to Bank's objective of becoming a knowledge center by writing, giving speeches and talking to outside audiences, and by contributing to Bank projects.
  • Contributes material to the department's website and newsletter and assists in preparation of presentation materials with department officer and manager.
  • Actively involved in the accomplishment of departmental and Bankwide quality initiatives by being a department coordinator, team leader, or team member. Assists departmental management in reviewing work of less experienced staff


  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 years equivalent experience; Bachelor's Degree preferred


  • Advanced degree in Economics, Finance, Public Policy, Planning, or other community or economic development related field preferred
