The Continuous Improvement Specialist - SMART Manufacturing (Industry 4.0) will be responsible for supporting and assisting the Surge Team Manager in organizing, planning, implementing and follow-through of continuous improvement initiatives. The Continuous Improvement Specialist role includes both creation of strategic vision and tactical management and execution. Other responsibilities (but not limited to) are the following:

  • Ensure a culture is in place that puts the safety and welfare of our employees ahead of all other goals
  • Lead Operational Excellence using Continuous Improvement (CI) principles, tools, methods, and techniques, in direct support of achieving business goals, improved performance, and decreased cost
  • Brainstorm, coordinate, implement, and monitor improvement activities with specific KPI targets while taking into account feedback from area stakeholders
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of, and commitment to, lean manufacturing principles and techniques
  • Assist in providing a plant-wide framework for CI and SMART Manufacturing implementation and facilitate the execution of this strategy
  • Deploy rapid improvement techniques
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, Business Management, PCS, IT, or other relevant degrees from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment and with lean process improvements
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing theories, methodologies, standards, and tools and ability to utilize Lean tools to generate meaningful, quantified improvement in: cost reduction, efficiency, reduced inventory, shortened cycle or lead times, improved quality and reliability, on-time delivery, or safety
  • Experience implementing SMART Manufacturing / Industry 4.0 technologies such as Power Apps
  • Demonstrated ability to influence
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with senior management (written and verbal) in English
  • Good planning and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and accomplish tasks in a fast-paced environment; and good project management skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills including the ability to work well on cross-functional teams at all levels in the organization
  • Be flexible and agile, especially when given direction
  • Understanding of financial and non-financial metrics necessary to achieve plant and business unit goals
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years in a manufacturing leadership role
  • Data Analytics, SPC experience, and familiarity with tools such as JMP, Minitab, Python, or R
  • Experience working closely with IT and familiarity with the use of databases and terminology
  • Advanced Computer Skills
  • Experience working with Process Controls group and familiarity with PLCs and automation tools and terminology
  • Experience with OSIsoft PI including PI Vision, DataLink, PI Tags, Asset Framework, Event Frames, and Notifications is a plus
  • Proven results facilitating continuous improvement activity and/or Lean manufacturing experience in aerospace, defense, or automotive industry
