Associate Academic and Institutional Studies II, (Two Positions Available)

Institutional Effectiveness


Salary Range: $5,325-$9,354/month


Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; exempt classification.


Essential Functions: Under general direction, the incumbent undertakes research, analytics, and database system management of considerable scope with minimal supervision. The incumbent performs high level research assignments in support of planning, policy development, and institutional effectiveness. In collaboration with senior staff in the Office of Institution Effectiveness (IE), the incumbent conducts analytical studies utilizing sound principles of research design, and participates in the following areas: data quality assurance, academic planning, institutional accountability, and accreditation standards. The research and analyses may also include data collection from diverse sources including nation, state and system wide data to campus wide web based surveys and enrollment, retention, and graduations trends. The incumbent will extract data using SQL queries in student data base systems including enrollment, admission, degree, and financial aid. The incumbent will ensure data integrity, conduct statistical testing, and develop dashboards using the visualization tool. Interpreting and drawing conclusions from the analysis findings, the incumbent will prepare presentations and other materials to disseminate findings useful for decision making and institutional improvement.



Required Qualifications & Experience: The incumbent must have equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university in information system, computer science/engineering, or social science with a concentration in data science, data mining, quantitative research methods, or statistics. The incumbent must have four years of progressively responsible administrative, technical, or professional analytical experience which demonstrates ability to conduct substantive surveys and studies of problems and issues in assigned areas. The incumbent must also have technical proficiency with computers and software packages. The incumbent must have demonstrated skills in statistical analyses and research methodologies; analyzing large complex databases; locating and integrating multi source data for projects such as environmental scans; interpreting and summarizing study results; preparing innovative presentation materials that makes analytical findings useful; and excellent verbal and written communication skills. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.


Desired Qualifications: Advance degrees in related fields (e.g. information system, computer science/engineering, or social science) focusing on data science, data mining, quantitative research methods, or statistics. Experience in institutional research and assessment in higher education institutions; student financial aid data (e.g. Pell grant); survey design and analysis; and in distributing research findings at professional conferences. Proficiency in developing data visualizations, especially Tableau, writing SQL to extract and manipulate data in relational database systems; and research methodology and statistical software
