Department Overview:

The Fitch Group Chief Data Office (CDO) is seeking a Data Scientist to be part of a team supporting all business and support functions across Fitch for high priority transformative initiatives. This is a formative opportunity to influence and innovate as part of the Emerging Tech team within the CDO function. In this role, the Data Scientist will partner with other data scientists as well as Business and ML engineers to work on various Modeling and ModelOps topics.

The Emerging Technology team's mandate is to coordinate and catalyze the adoption of disruptive AI, machine learning, and automation solutions across the Fitch Group.

Specific Emerging Technology team objectives are:

  • Lead AI/ML/Automation technology & vendor relationships
  • AI/ML/Automation technology implementation at the Enterprise level (in partnership w/ business & product owners)
  • Enterprise data science products, processes & solutions (predictive models, model governance and quality)
  • Lead and support the internal Data Science challenge initiative

To contribute to these objectives the ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of present-day AI/ML capabilities, has worked on developing and deploying various AI/ML based models. Familiarity with credit rating agency operations and the credit ratings business model is a strong plus, or more generally, experience in financial services is desirable.

Role Description:

  • Expertise in various modeling techniques
  • Work closely with business & product owners to implement various models based on business priority
  • Follow appropriate s tandards and best practices for AI/ML based models and ModelOps
  • Build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms
  • Train, test, and assess viability of models using standard Python packages (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
  • Develop and support various modeling activities across Fitch; provide guidance and best practices to other modeling teams
  • Explore current state-of-the-art modeling approaches in the literature and adapt existing code to solve business challenges
  • Partner with other Data Scientists to develop various models supporting Fitch businesses
  • Work closely with ML Engineers to deploy the models into the production environment
  • Serve as a technical and subject matter expert in understanding the vendor's tech capabilities on AI/ML side
  • Conduct thorough reviews of ML model implementation and performance as a key contributor in the governance and validation process

Skills & Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in a comparable quantitative modeling or analytics role, ideally in the financial sector
  • Demonstrated experience in applying statistical and/or machine learning techniques in the financial industryFamiliarity of various environments and tools like AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, MongoDB, Redis/Memcached
  • Good working knowledge of Python and other programming languages
  • Experience with data visualization software such as Tableau, Qliksense , Plotly
  • Experience with relational and distributed database systems with expertise in using tools such as SQL, Spark and Presto for large scale data analytics
  • Prepared to iterate quickly, build proof-of-concept models, and prototypes
  • Ability to formulate a strong view of the technological strengths and weaknesses of open-source and vendor AI/ML solutions alike
  • Understanding of present-day AI/ML technologies including their capabilities, limitations, and a good instinct for operationalisability of particular applications
  • Knowledge of applications of AI/ML within the Financial Services sector, particularly Credit analysis and markets
  • Strong communication skills; strong ability to engage with business leaders across the Fitch Group
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills; comfortable explaining technical topics to non-technical users & ability to sell a compelling a data story(backed by data) to the business stakeholders
  • Understanding of the technology landscape and strong knowledge of open source libraries
  • Ability to translate analytic ideas into code using Python and at least one other programming language
  • Experience working within a financial institution or related organization would be an advantage
