Schaeffler Group USA, a global automotive and industrial supplier, is seeking a Product Designer to support our North American Headquarters in Fort Mill, SC. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with Design Engineers to develop and create new designs and manufacturing drawings using Schaeffler Group Standards. In addition, will be responsible for visiting manufacturing facilities to maintain current knowledge of in-house processes and continuous product improvement.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Ensure function and durability of Schaeffler product in the customer application
  • Improve product offerings with innovative design and development methodologies
  • Create patent applications for the protection of worthy innovations
  • Check design and drawings of individual components, manufacturing process drawings and assembly drawings according to customer and supplier requirement lists
  • Verify manufacturing and assembly feasibility through the agreement of the drawing requirements with the manufacturing facilities, including external suppliers
  • Create, develop, and maintain plan for verification and validation of the production
  • Process, review, and technically release design changes and production deviations
  • Lead generation of Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) for each product program
  • Answer customer technical questions pertaining to catalog information and interchangeability

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Associate's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related discipline; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 2+ years previous experience with an industrial manufacturer; technical understanding of bearings and the bearing market strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of drafting/CAD/3D Systems; ProE strongly preferred
  • Ability to read blue prints is required
  • Ability to apply standard techniques and basic engineering concepts, including conceptual layouts and design components
  • Knowledge of ASTM/ISO dimensioning standards and creating manufacturing drawings for prototypes and tooling authorization
  • Strong work ethic with ability to work well under pressure, high initiative, and ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Must exhibit strong organization and communication skills and have a strong understanding of engineering principles
