Job Description

Job Summary:

Modern engineering is a multi-discipline activity using a variety of disparate applications. Our project-level and engineering management level processes depend on activities run inside these applications. Increasing automation of engineering activities frees up engineers from administrative tasks, reduces human error and allows them to concentrate on their creative efforts.

Your role will involve using the APIs to mine data from these application and run tasks within them, tracking work progress and delivering automation of process activities. It requires the ability to see and understand the needs of the wider business, identify bottlenecks in existing ways of working and see how your knowledge of the tools we use can be leveraged to make the day to day activities more efficient and provide a deeper insight into how the teams are working.

You will work closely with two leads in the engineering data and system administration area who are familiar with the existing estate and current improvement projects you will be working on. You will bring experience and technical knowledge from your previous roles and use these propose and implement greater improvements.

The successful candidate will we be acting as a devops engineer working closely within a small development team. develop new solutions for process automation and reporting within existing and new enterprise critical applications. Additionally, the successful candidate will assist in the scoping, development, and testing of new systems used internally by the whole company.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Must be Educated to degree level with either a BSc in Software or IT Systems Engineering. Minimum 3 years' experience in a dev ops engineer role/position.
  • Should be able to demonstrate good knowledge in the majority of the following subjects :
    • Programming/scripting skills (e.g. python, Javascript, Java, C#, PHP, BASH, SQL, VB, html, XML, SOY templates)
    • Object orientated software design
    • OS Linux / Ubuntu / Windows
    • Databases (eg mongodb, mariadb, MS-SQL)
    • Atlassian SDK / restAPI
    • (confluence) Comala Document Management
    • Docker
    • Python flask
    • Git
    • Web servers eg nginx
    • Solidworks API

Duties and Tasks

  • Work with the Engineering tools team, to understand new features and solutions in the pipeline.
  • Implement features in the existing backlog
  • Become a technical expert in the engineering data structures that govern the transfer of engineering designs to the factories located around the world
  • Develop innovative solutions to aid decision making by the engineering teams and increase process automation
  • Support and develop tools to aid engineering audit compliance activities
  • Create and maintain plugins for Confluence and Jira
  • Create, extend and maintain process automation including bots for IM platforms such as Slack
  • Perform systems administration activities on the Atlassian estate
  • Assist teams in developing on-prem web applications and infrastructure
  • Track emerging technologies, innovations, and obsolescence in the engineering tool estate

Essential Attributes

  • Excellent software development skills, primarily in Python
  • Familiarity with database design and technologies, primarily mongodb and ms-sql
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent written English skills
  • Ability to self-direct research into application interfaces and methods
  • Comfortable working in cross functional engineering teams from different disciplines: hardware, software mechanical, test as well as external parties
  • High attention to detail
  • Willing to work additional hours when required
