Job Description:

The Digital Communications/Communications Specialist supports the advancement of information sharing and collaboration across the company through existing and emerging digital channels, including Fergusons corporate intranet, internal collaboration platforms and email. This role is critical to helping Ferguson associates apply new collaboration tools in a smarter, faster and better manner. The successful candidate will:

  • Lead efforts to increase adoption and productivity around emerging associate-facing digital communication and collaboration tools
  • Facilitate the community of associates responsible for managing internal content
  • Lead associate communities across the company that accelerate learning and knowledge sharing around the new tools in close partnership with project teams, change management, technical support and training

Our ideal candidate also must have the ability to write articles and produce content (video, blog posts, etc.) with a keen awareness of audience and purpose. The associate will:

  • Be a creative and resourceful content provider who formulates and implements original ideas
  • Actively execute best-in-class Communications strategies across workstreams
  • Expertly use email, video, intranet storytelling, surveys and face-to-face presentations to reach internal audiences

Responsibilities

Digital Strategy

  • Help teams across Ferguson effectively leverage associate digital channels to achieve business outcomes
  • Develop, write and execute targeted strategies to accelerate adoption of tools in areas that achieve the greatest business value
  • Partner with IT to ensure strategic alignment in business and technical strategies
  • Remain up to date with new and emerging digital platforms and trends

Intranet Management

  • Execute adoption strategies for new intranet features and craft teaching aids on how to incorporate those into communication and business strategies
  • Oversee day-to-day governance of intranet, ensuring proper access and use
  • Create social engagement strategies that create more engaged and open conversation, working closely with the Communications team and business partners on content best practices

Engagement

  • Integrate internal social media platforms, corporate intranet and other collaboration tools to make it easy for associates to connect with relevant content and people across the organization
  • Lead efforts to build online communities, capture and engage audiences, coordinate campaigns and target online outreach programs to key stakeholders
  • Manage associate discussion forums and drive participation in internal social media, especially focused on alignment to company culture

Measurement

  • Create meaningful insights using available data to develop thorough understanding of stakeholder motivations, preferences and opinions to improve usability
  • Coordinate regular focus groups and surveys to obtain feedback on efficiencies, enhancements, suggestions and limitations of the intranet and collaboration toolset

Communications

  • Work with subject matter experts and craft clear messaging of content topics
  • Suggest and implement strategies in multiple communications formats including written articles, social platforms, PowerPoint presentations and infographics
  • Write and send enterprise wide emails to more than 25,000 associates
  • Write stories for the intranet
  • Present to large groups of associates on behalf of the Communications Department

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelors degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, Information Systems or related field
  • Minimum of five years of experience in Corporate Communications, PR, Marketing Communications or related field preferred
  • Exceptional collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Experience leading digital communities through engaging content and thought leadership
  • Understanding of, and experience using internal collaboration platforms, specifically Microsoft Office 365 services SharePoint, OneDrive, Groups, Teams, Planner, OneNote, Power BI, Stream, Flow and Power Apps
  • Confidence in coaching others on appropriate selection of channels, depending on audience and desired outcomes
  • Self-starter with proven ability to take ownership for results and drive change with engaging communications
  • Excellent organizational skills, excellent writing skills and experience with project management processes
  • Strong ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Experience with a modern intranet or social platform for a large-scale organization
  • A broad knowledge of internet best practices, emerging technologies, social networking, and multimedia blogs.
  • A solid understanding of Web usability best practices
  • A thorough understanding of all aspects of Corporate Communications, especially writing and channel selection.
