Primary Function of Position:

We are seeking a solution-oriented, initiative-taking, entrepreneurial person who will be responsible for the cradle-to-grave support of Digital products at Intuitive, including Intuitive Hub, Telepresence, Simulation, OME products, and others. This requires close collaboration with Digital Product Management to define product requirements, selection/release of parts and owning the implementation in a manufacturing environment. This role will also work closely with the and Digital Quality Engineering team, Digital R&D, and Global Operations teams. This position is highly collaborative, and strong communication/presentation skills will provide you with high visibility amongst the cross-functional teams and management.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of design release for the necessary Digital products
  • The products used for Intuitive Digital are primarily Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) parts, such as laptop/desktop computers, tablets, networking equipment, audio/video cables, Bluetooth devices, memory storage, etc.
  • Creation and maintenance of product BOMs, assembly and test processes and detailed work instructions.
  • Lead technical discussions/meetings to communicate technical project details to product managers, engineering peers, production/logistics teams and management.
  • Provide training and support to production/logistics teams and 3rd party vendors.
  • Release/support any supplemental test equipment that may be necessary for Digital products, at both ISI factory and vendor facilities.
  • Use standard tools (Excel, reports, etc.) to define and measure the health/yield of Digital products, both in factory and field. Communicate/drive resolutions to quality issues.
  • Deliver improvements in yield, reliability, serviceability, manufacturability, testability, capacity and cost.
  • Disposition non-conforming product as required.
  • Update Approved Manufacturer List (AML) as needed, for EOL and/or quality issues.
  • Interface with cross-functional engineering teams including mechanical, electrical, software and clinical disciplines.
  • Work with 3rd party vendors, contract manufacturers and internal personnel for component and process/outsourcing initiatives. Travel to vendor sites as required.
  • Ensure compliance with both our medical device quality system and our non-medical device quality system including corrective action closure, discrepant material dispositions and change implementations.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Skills & Abilities :

Competency Requirements: (based on: education, training, skills and experience)

Required (must-have):

  • Minimum BS degree in Computer Engineering, Networking, Technical Project Management or other similar field.
  • Minimum 5+ years experience in a manufacturing or design-related role
  • Knowledge and execution of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Necessary to engage with technicians, production management, product development, planning, purchasing, regulatory, inspection, customer support and clinical marketing organizations.
  • Proficient with computers and software applications (Excel, Powerpoint, Word, etc.)
  • "Self-starter" attitude and comfort in a hands-on environment, where you can to influence product design to improve reliability, robustness and performance.
  • Excellent documentation skills and high standards for instructional clarity/accuracy.
  • High energy and genuine excitement to release product to market without making compromises.
  • Any other skills/experience this role must have?

Preferred (nice-to-have):
  • Minimum MS degree in an engineering discipline listed above.
  • Prior experience working in an FDA/ISO regulated environment.
  • Prior experience with Documentation and production control systems: Agile, SAP, MES
  • Prior experience with release/support of COTS-based products, and implement them in manufacturing
  • Prior experience evaluating/managing supplier part quality.
  • Basic knowledge of process controls, including Six-Sigma, CPk, etc.
  • Experience in Just-In-Time, Demand Flow Technology, and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
