The Product Finance Director is responsible for supporting the SVB Product Organization in all aspects that pertain to finance. Reporting into the Head of FP&A, the Product Finance director will drive support across four broad categories; 1. P&L forecasting & reporting, 2. Product profitability, 3. Project portfolio forecasting and reporting, 4. Analytics. Due to the strategic importance, and the increased level of financial investment in product and digital expansion, this newly created role will be responsible for managing a team of 4-6 resources located in our Tempe and Bangalore delivery centers. The Product Finance Director will ensure the support of the strategic direction, and that investments are substantiated with robust business cases and KPIs.

Responsibilities

  • Build out the finance team by leveraging SVBs global delivery centers, to support the four key areas of; P&L reporting, profitability, analysis and project portfolio tracking. Set the strategic direction and vision for the team to ensure the mutually agreed priorities of the Product organization are met.
  • Drive the formalization of the SVBs Value Capture approach and framework. Create a robust process to ensure standardized business cases are subject to thorough vetting and are supported by sound financial assumptions (revenue and expense) and that contemplate the project benefits.
  • Own the corporate vertical for strategic investment / project tracking, including tracking of approved budget, tracking of actual spend, and the benefits realization and value capture framework. Extend the corporate framework for strategic investment and apply to the Product Growth portfolio, a subset of SVBs overall investment envelope.
  • Enhance the current management reporting to expand the suite of Product level P&Ls to include shadow views that inform both the total financial (marginal and fully costed) performance as well as the key drivers.
  • Partner with the corporate profitability team to understand the business drivers and assumptions around expense allocations to help both client and unit profitability, across metrics like acquisition and servicing elements. This includes NPV and profitability calculators for BAU and investments, as well as Life Time Value standards.
  • Ensure that a robust control mechanism exists over the investment portfolios, this includes FTE resourcing - headcount tracking for FT staff and contractors, with comparisons to budget.
  • Leverage the detailed unit costs to support new product launches, and to analyze the economics of bundled offerings and other cross-product strategies
  • Partner with the product organization to enhance analytical frameworks and reporting around vintages, portfolio dynamics, back/front book, attrition, acquisition
  • Support the day-to-day reporting and analysis related to direct expenses, variance analysis relative to the budget to the individual product managers, as well as the Global Head of Product. Lead the annual planning and quarterly forecasting for these groups.

  • 15 years of progressive experience in finance - FP&A, transformation, consulting, product, digital
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance (MBA preferred)
  • Solid understanding of product and digital and agile working methods
  • Understanding of key accounting principals
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical abilities, including problem solving and time management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the capability to work on multiple projects with minimal direction in a dynamic and fluid environment with rotating priorities.
  • Pro-active, high energy and strong interpersonal skills with a team-focused attitude, demonstrating the ability to collaborate and compromise while building constructive and effective relationships
  • Working in publicly traded financial institution
  • Comfortable presenting to C-Level
