Job Description

John Hancock will be entering the employee benefits market, with a specific focus on voluntary benefits. The US employee benefits market has a dynamic, complex ecosystem of insurance carriers, third party administrators, brokers and information systems. This role will be responsible for leading the strategy for how John Hancock will integrate into that ecosystem.

As John Hancock plans to outsource key administrative tasks to a third-party administrator with experience in the US benefits markets this role will be responsible for managing that relationship and ensuring that we are delivering outstanding service to our customers. You will play a critical part in our market entry strategy as service issues are consistently ranked as the number one reason employers switch from one insurance carrier to another.

Individual Responsibilities:

  • Supports the development of the businesss strategic plans across all departments, facilitates cross-functional collaboration and supports project initiatives
  • Develops and tracks the businesss goals, this includes establishing measurement criteria to monitor execution/performance, identifying deficiencies, and providing actionable solutions
  • Coordinate closely with all business functions and partners, including global product, finance, distribution, operations and marketing to ensure that we are aligned to advance the overall business strategy
  • Implementation of strategic initiatives " works on, and sometimes leads, various business projects
  • Collaborates with finance on evaluation of business metrics, product pricing and P&L responsibilities
  • Assist with Board(s) as necessary to implement strategy
  • Work closely with market research to understand the competitive landscape and market trends to tie back to our strategy
  • Conduct analysis for merger and acquisition opportunities
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously including data collection, project management, and presentation development. Scope and frequency of projects will vary.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • 5-10 years experience in the financial services industry
  • Experience coordinating projects across different divisions/teams within an organization
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including building presentations
  • Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects while meeting deadlines
  • Attention to detail is critical as decisions are often being made from our work and proposals
  • Ability to work well within a team and to collaborate will be a required attribute " how well this individual works with other teams is a major contributing factor to their effectiveness " this includes having a positive can-do attitude and being proactive
  • Big picture thinker " ability to think strategically and creatively to help grow the business over the long-term and through changing market environments
  • Exceptional Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills are necessary to create visual and verbal analysis, reports and presentations. Experience with other strategy or visual tools is a plus.

Decision Authorities:

  • Candidate must demonstrate vast experience in the financial service sector as well as experience working on strategic initiatives " experience in intermediary channel is a plus with a strong understanding of 40-Act mutual funds and other retail investment products
  • Managing internal and external resources to achieve targets
  • Day to Day operational decision-making authority
  • Decisions at this position are made using judgment based on skills and knowledge already developed
  • Decisions beyond normal day to day may require escalation to management
  • Managing projects and major deliverables
