Director of Operations

Georgia-Pacific is recruiting a Director of Operations to lead and manage hourly and salaried production employees in a high volume corrugated converting operation in Pelahatchie, MS. The Director of Operations should have a strong working knowledge of environmental and safety standards and embrace safety as a value, as well as demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to motivate others and reinforce accountability.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Complying with all company policies and procedures

  • Managing the day-to-day operation of the production, maintenance, scheduling, and shipping departments in a Non-union corrugated converting plant

  • Ensuring production and delivery of the highest quality products at the lowest costs, consistent with customer requirements, company plans and profit objectives

  • Developing innovative policies, methods and procedures that add value for the facility

  • Apply and coach others on Market Based Management principles/philosophies

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Leading and managing direct reports including coaching, performance feedback and incentives

  • Ability to influence, interface and gain credibility across a wide range of levels:

    • Executive (GP management team, senior leadership, external customers)

    • Direct reports

    • GP Supervisors and leads

    • GP front-line employees
  • Identify and implement systems and equipment upgrades and improvements to drive long term value creation

  • Understand and be able to interpret and analyze financial and operating statements

  • Must possess the humility to gain knowledge from others

  • Ability to challenge and be challenged in a respectful manner

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
Basic Qualifications:
  • High School or GED

  • A minimum of 5 years of Plant/Operations Management experience within the manufacturing/production industry, to include: production, maintenance, scheduling and/or shipping departments

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Bachelors degree or higher

  • Experience with high speed manufacturing/converting machinery

  • Experience working within the Corrugated Packaging industry

  • Solid working knowledge of: equipment servicing, planning/scheduling, mechanical maintenance, plant engineering, quality and corrugator/converting processes and equipment
