Arconic is currently in search of Craft Development Program Electrical Trainees to join our Global Rolled Products (GRP), business unit in Alcoa, TN. Arconic's Tennessee Operations, is one of the most modern aluminum fabricating facilities in the world. Our plants produce high-quality molten metal and aluminum sheet and are recognized as a world leader in the business. The facility has been located at the Foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains for 100 years and continues to thrive and grow.

The Craft Development Program- Electrical (CDP-E) is designed to cover an approximate seventeen-week period with the trainees going to training for approximately forty hours per week during this period of time. The CDP-E classes will be held either on site or at a local community college. The tentative schedule of the program will be Monday through Friday, day shift. The class content will focus on electrical basics, alternating current (AC) troubleshooting, and programmable logic controller (PLC) basics. The material will also include electrical safety, tagout/lockout/try, and 32.60 training.

The CDP-E will have numerous tests and skill checks that must be passed by trainees to qualify for successful completion of the program. Additionally, all trainees will be required to pass the top rate electrician test at the end of the CDP-E to successfully complete the program. Trainees who successfully complete the CDP-E will become top rate electricians and will be assigned to one of the plant maintenance areas.

In this role, t he electrician will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heavy industrial machinery and equipment with a working knowledge of AC/DC motors and controls, programmable logic, combustion, metering, air conditioning, power distribution (low and high voltage), conduit and schematics, among other topics.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Read electrical schematics to troubleshoot equipment
  • Create job kits for maintenance jobs including repairs, new equipment installation, and preventative maintenance
  • Perform preventative maintenance on production equipment
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and state and federal regulations
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools, measuring devices, and test equipment
  • Follow instructions and respond to management direction
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Exercise strong communication skills
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Provide improvement suggestions to increase quality, production, and safety
Basic Qualifications
  • High school graduate or GED
  • 9 months of electrical experience (including technical and/or classroom training)
  • Successful completion of the Electrical Entrance exam
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates' or Bachelors' degree in an applicable field
  • 2 years electrical experience
  • Completion of an approved apprentice program or technical training
  • Knowledge and experience with National Electric code
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office experience
