Job Description

Job Summary:

Product development and quality are key aspects of our function, and as pioneers of consumer maritime electronics you will be working closely with our engineering teams to uphold these objectives.

The successful candidate will be working as a senior electronics engineer within the Reliability Team, working closely with colleagues in a larger design and development group. You will be leading root cause analysis and working at component level to identify alternative components to address, obsolescence (EOL), quality, sourcing, or improvement projects. Additionally, the successful candidate may assist in reviewing existing products using FMEA or cause and effect methodology to implement product improvements, process change or new product design.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Must be Educated to degree level with a BSc in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent) plus 3+ years experience in an Electronic design or investigative/reliability role.
  • Experience in consumer electronics and high-volume manufacturing would be advantageous.
  • Should be able to demonstrate good knowledge and grounding in the following subjects: -
  • Resolving component supply issues associated with EOL/alternative components
  • Use of methodologies to assess and identify root cause of product failure
  • Involvement with product reliability and improvement projects
  • PCB/PCBA design and layout knowledge and good practices
  • Digital electronics: - Microprocessor design, CMOS logic design, PAL/EPLD design, DRAM, FLASH, EEPROM and PROM.
  • Power Supply topology and design.
  • RF design techniques. (An advantageous but not essential).
  • Should have basic knowledge and understanding of embedded software design (C and Assembler). (An advantageous but not essential).
  • Knowledge and understanding of EMC would be of use.
  • Use of schematic capture and circuit simulation tools.
  • Should be proficient in the use of a PC and be able to use general Outlook and Windows packages such as (Word, Powerpoint, Excel etc).

Duties and Tasks

  • To work closely within the Reliability Team to help achieve defined goals.
  • High involvement in assessing alternative component suitability due to obsolescence/EOL
  • Component data sheet specification analysis for design, sourcing and procurement.
  • Root cause analysis of product returns and creation of reports and corrective actions
  • BoM assessment and management of component obsolescence and documentation of subsequent Engineering Change Control data
  • Schematic / documentation control.
  • Design and verification of electronic components and circuits.
  • Testing and debugging of PCB's.
  • Design and development of test fixtures.
  • Participate and prepare hardware technical specifications.
  • Maintain an awareness for tools and technologies and recommend when necessary.
  • Ensure all designs are compliant with ISO9000 policy documents.
  • Test plan and project schedule generation.
  • Liaise with offsite production teams to ensure changes/designs are suitable for manufacture & test.
  • Maintain competitor awareness.

  • Occasionally required to work off site, visiting suppliers or manufacturers as required (infrequent)
