Digital Services provides in-house digital support across WGBH, including national production units, childrens productions, local radio and news, education, membership, and other foundation departments. We work on a wide variety of projects; at any given time our team can be found designing and building interactive games for kids, websites for popular PBS shows, audio and video players, media-rich archives, newsletters, and much more.


WGBH is looking for an Email Program Manager to help us take our content-based and membership-focused email program to the next level. As a member of the Digital Services team, you will lead strategic, cross-functional projects to enhance audience communications and grow revenue. You will focus on delivering the most relevant communications to our audience and donors, engaging them with the content they care about, and growing the relationship.

The ideal candidate is innovative, enthusiastic, and audience-focused with strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills. This person will have demonstrated skill with technical tools and processes through ESP and CRM management, digital marketing, data analysis, and meeting audience and revenue growth goals. They will be passionate, organized, flexible in the face of change, comfortable managing multiple cross-functional projects at once and will have proven success managing projects.


  • Oversee the WGBH local email program to ensure the best audience and donor experience across all of the email communications, leveraging your deep understanding and strategic view of best practices, goals, list growth and revenue drivers.
  • Serve as an advisor to enable internal teams with the right tools and training to produce and execute highly effective email campaigns.
  • Effectively partner across a collaborative organization with membership and major gifts, digital product, content production units, local sponsorship, and marketing and communications, to provide email marketing leadership, and to drive and ensure:
    • adherence to data policies and practices for list selection, segmentation, and tracking in B2C email communications.
    • adherence to WGBH brand and style guidelines, maintaining brand image
    • the use of insights from data to identify priority segments and help design email products to maximize value to WGBH prospects and members.
    • growth in ability to personalize email communications
    • continuous improvement across email KPIs, including deliverability, open rates, click-to-open rates, conversion rates, opt-out rates, and revenue
    • find new and optimize existing opportunities for revenue through event marketing, membership, and local corporate sponsorship.
    • appropriate balance of content and promotional campaigns to support excellent audience and member experience while maximizing donor lifetime value
  • Drive the email program roadmap with an emphasis on improving engagement and donor retention.
  • Manage reporting requests and ongoing analyses for campaign performance, key insights, and strategic learning.
  • Maintain and optimize a testing agenda.
  • Build insightful nurture campaigns and re-engagement campaigns to maximize existing list.


  • A passion for engaging audiences and a desire to continually learn and improve
  • Analytical approach with experience using data for testing, segmentation, and personalization
  • Hands-on experience with ESPs like Pardot, Sendgrid, Marketo and CRMs such as Salesforce preferred
  • Knowledge of CAN-SPAM, GDPR, and CCPA
  • Knowledge of best practices for improving email deliverability
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills with ability to identify and respond to situations quickly
  • Media industry experience is a plus
  • Proven track record of driving success and significant results
  • Deep knowledge of email best practices, technologies, and trends
  • A background in membership and/or subscription, or communication for subscription services
  • Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Skillful at managing timelines, dependencies, communication across teams.
  • Comfortable in a data-driven business environment with the ability to clearly articulate information that influences data-driven business decisions


  • Bachelors degree with at least 5 years experience in email and digital marketing. Experience creating, testing, analyzing and optimizing B2C email marketing, remarketing and nurture programs
