Engineer Packaging Development - Global Packaging Team - Mars Wrigley Confectionery

This role leads the development of packaging innovations for rigid and flexible applications globally:

  • responsibility for the technical leadership of globally led DS2, Innovation & EIC projects.
  • close partnership with key stakeholders including regional packaging, commercial, marketing and supply teams; maintain partnership with key external suppliers and professional groups.
  • understanding of the consumer, shoppers, and customers, combined with a technical understanding to support the creation of the next generation of Innovation in packaging.

What are we looking for?

  • BSc in in Packaging/Science/Engineering/Technology/Product Design or related subject area.
  • 5+ years of experience in developing Consumer and/or Customer Products or functional Packaging from concept through to commercialization in a CPG industry.
  • Strong technical project management experience (across quality, efficiency and growth projects). Have worked with business and R&D systems to manage projects from concept to launch.
  • Experience across different areas of R&D, specifically consumer, customer and shopper insight, sensory, concept development, packaging innovation and packaging development or implementation.
  • Well connected to the outside Packaging world (e.g. suppliers, agencies, consultants, customers).

What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Leads projects which are both clearly defined and which require scoping by this role - using a range of functional/technical knowledge across the R&D model (from front-end to implementation).
  • Leads activities through both the TRL and QuEST process, applying project management discipline and tools, ensuring compliance with DQP, Sustainability measures, PQM and other relevant standards.
  • Primarily focused on DS2 & growth activities - but also covering FTO, Innovation and EIC initiatives as required.
  • Inputs to the rigid and flexible packaging innovation pipeline, from consumer, shopper, channel and customer insight generation and translation to technical solutions that are desirable, feasible & viable and drive penetration of our brands globally.
  • Understanding of the internal and external supply network capabilities in particular collaboration with the regional supply teams and external suppliers in key regions.
  • Partners with Cross Functional Stakeholders including all global teams and relevant regional teams to develop and drive activities.
  • Connects and networks internally and externally. Is a strong contributor to the Open Innovation agenda for Packaging development in both rigid and flexible applications. Shares best practice across the Global Packaging Community.
  • Producing lab scale prototypes of existing/new packaging, always ensuring the best technique is applied for the phase of the project.
