CIVIL & ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICE

Michael Baker International's civil engineering professionals manage and staff active projects in over 40 countries on five continents. Services are provided for a broad range of projects and capabilities, including highways, airports, bridges, rail and transit systems, government and commercial facilities, water and wastewater infrastructure, oil and gas infrastructure, and commercial/urban development. Our fields of expertise span all areas of civil engineering and include an extensive variety of specialty disciplines, such as environmental compliance and restoration, coastal engineering, urban development, and mining.

Michael Baker International is seeking an Environmental Associate for our Harrisburg, PA location.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

The successful candidate will be responsible for completing several types of environmental documentation for various clients. The Environmental Associate will work closely with other environmental, planning, and engineering staff, mainly on transportation projects. Organizational skills, quality control, and reliability are essential to the position, as are strong oral communication and technical writing skills. The position also requires an ability to balance the needs of multiple projects simultaneously and to be flexible as those needs change.


PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. in Environmental Science, or a related degree.
  • 0-3 years related experience.
  • Field work a few days per month.
  • Occasional overtime and overnight travel.
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
  • ArcMap GIS proficiency.

Preferences:

Areas of expertise which will be considered:

  • NEPA for FHWA, FTA, FRA, FAA.
  • Section 4(f).
  • Chapter 105 waterway permits.
  • Wetland delineation.
  • Bog turtle and other threatened and endangered species surveys.
  • Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Soil, groundwater, asbestos, and/or lead-based paint sampling.

Certifications such as WPIT, CE, ACM and LBP inspection, and HAZWOPER would be desired, but are not required to apply.
