Position Summary

The role is accountable for driving supply chain excellence in alignment with global enterprise initiatives and will lead manufacturing design and implementation of factory test software and firmware programming processes to facilitate efficient production runs through test verification, commercial launch and post launch maintenance.

Customers and collaborative partners

This role will primarily interact with external contract manufacturer partners with support from software design firms and internal cross-functional teams (quality, regulatory, innovation & software design R&D, supply chain, marketing and procurement).

Scope

  • Suppliers: up to 10 strategic and core
  • Annual Landed Cost: supports spend up to $25 MM
  • SKUs: up to 100 (global & regional)
  • Manufacturing environment: light industrial, controlled & clean room environments
  • Regulatory environment: UL, CE

Accountabilities

  • Ensure compliance: collaborate with respective functions to achieve objectives in regulatory, social, quality, and financial compliance
  • Deliver top tier customer service: supports customer OTIF > 85%
  • Commercializes innovation: proactively assess manufacturing designs, capacity and capability within the supply network to ensure sufficiency vs the business plans
  • Improve & control costs: achieve 3-5% cost improvement annually across the end-to-end supply chain
  • Improve & control working & physical capital: sustain accurate accounting of KC-owned assets at 3rd parties; optimize working capital through supplier reliability initiatives

Responsibilities

The incumbent serves as the central resource with design, process, manufacturing, test, quality and marketing as the electronic product(s) move to completion and distribution. Involvement lasts throughout all stages of a products lifecycle, from product release through maintenance of the product and end of life decisions.

Primary responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Manage and supervise contract manufacturing design and implementation of factory test software and firmware programming processes to facilitate efficient production runs aligned with delivery schedule
  • Ensure quality, security and compliance of device firmware, provisioning and testing at manufacturing
  • Work closely with the firmware/software R&D design team on the requirements and roadmap for factory testing and programming
  • Manage the creation and maintenance of programming and quality test procedures/scripts requirements and development for both hardware design verification and functional tests
  • Validate the necessary tools and test plans for conducting firmware/software testing and hardware design verification
  • Contribute to integration of automated continuous delivery and deployment to ensure compliance, quality and optimized production processes
  • Lead, coordinate problem resolution associated with factory test software, firmware programming, device provisioning

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering preferred. Equivalent degrees may be accepted
  • 5+ years direct experience of Firmware for Electronics Manufacturing in high volume electronics manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers
  • Firmware writing or testing for one or more wireless communications standards
  • UI development to test electronics systems
  • Knowledge of script programming or management under Windows and Linux using native or Python script languages
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as UART, JTAG, SPI, I2C, etc
  • IoT system end-to-end testing experience for functionalities such device management, device provisioning and FOTA
  • Working knowledge of Electronics and Electrical fundamentals
  • History of success interacting closely with offshore engineering development or manufacturing partners in a flexible work environment
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent troubleshooting and debugging techniques
  • Effective and influential communication (verbal and written) in the English language
  • Capable of traveling unsupervised internationally up to 50% (e.g., Mexico, China, EU & Non-EU) during project assignments
  • Willingness to flex work hours as necessary to engage with global teams and supply partners

Differentiating

  • Bluetooth, GSM, LTE, NB-IoT firmware writing/testing experience
  • GIT version control experience
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Mandarin Chinese
  • Experience deploying lean 6-sigma tools
  • Masters in Operations Management or MBA from accredited university
