The Food Service Worker is responsible for serving meals that are nutritious and that take into consideration children's various cultures and individual nutritional needs. The incumbent will prepare meals in accordance with USDA guidelines and strictly adheres to health, safety, food handling, and sanitation requirements before, during and after meal preparation. This position will follow menu guidelines using age-appropriate potion sizes and adjusts when necessary, due to the availability of menu items or an individual child's needs all in accordance with the CACFP standards.

Job Requirements:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • ServSafe certification preferred.
  • Physical exam and background checks are required for this position.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of food preparation and storage techniques as well as the local, state and federal
    regulations pertaining to sanitation and food service.
  • Ability to learn USDA/CACFP program requirements and Head Start Performance Standards
    related to food and nutrition.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations associated with prevention of occupational disease and injury,
    including the exercise of universal precautions and the prevention of contamination.
  • Ability to organize time efficiently and accept responsibility with limited supervision.
  • Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills, especially Excel and basic data systems in MS Office
    and internet navigation.
  • Must be honest, dependable and able to meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.

    Physical Requirements:
    Ability to stand, walk, and bend.
    Ability to withstand the heat of the kitchen for long periods of time.
    Ability to lean over sinks to wash dishes for long periods of time.
    Ability to engage in repetitive movement of wrists, hands, and fingers.
    Ability to receive and respond to oral communication.
    Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
    Ability to carry up to 40 pound of food and serving items up multiple flights of stairs multiple
    times a day.
