Directs the General Accounting departments in recording the financial activities of Lynden Air Freight and related subsidiaries.



Responsibilities



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Establishes or recommends to management accounting policies and procedures for the company.Reviews monthly journal entries for accuracy and completeness.

  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and year to date income statements for various Lynden International Managed Companies and lead monthly income statement reviews with upper management.

  • Provides analytics on business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.

  • Reviews monthly account reconciliations for accuracy and completeness to ensure conformance to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Establishes and ensures procedures and work processes are in conformance with company policies, tax requirements and government regulations, domestic and foreign. Works with foreign currency.

  • Provides liaison between LAF, LAF managed subsidiaries, and LI corporate finance, tax, and administration.

  • Provides support in preparation of budgets and reviews budget proposals from Lynden Internationals operations group.

  • Advises management and recommends modifications to existing corporate programs & procedures due to GAAP or tax code provisions.

  • Provides support and liaison for audits of company's accounts.

  • Provides support, leadership, and direction to direct reports



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages the employees in General Accounting and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning, directing work; appraising



Qualifications

Successful candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in accounting from a four-year college and at least 5-7 years progressive accounting experience, including a minimum of 3 years proven managerial experience or supervisory skills. CPA and Oracle experience a plus.Foreign currency experience preferred.





Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, financial reports, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, and legal documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, customers, general public, and groups of managers, including top management. Language skills appropriate to foreign entity(ies) is a plus.





Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, financial reports, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, and legal documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, customers, general public, and groups of managers, including top management.




Strong analytical and quantitative skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.





Competent with a PC and word processing software



Advanced knowledge of Excel or similar software program to create spreadsheets, analyze data and use macros to streamline the data collection and analysis process.
