Job Description

Job Summary:

Reporting into the Senior Global Product Manager responsible for managing Raymarine's Multifunction displays and associated software.

Support the Senior Product Manager in a variety of areas such as; market quantification and analysis, business case development, competitive bench marking activities, maintenance of line activities, product testing and validation, product road-map generation, life-cycle planning and software backlog prioritisation.

With a focus on Raymarine strategic MFD portfolio, this role requires strong connections to both Sales and Engineering to bridge the gap between departments and bring to life products that fulfill unmet customer needs.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a knowledge base of the competitive marketplace, including feature sets, pricing strategies and discount seasonality. Conduct relevant market and product research. Undertake comprehensive Voice of Customer research through interactions with end consumers, distribution partners, OEM's, and global sales team. Establish competitive intelligence and various market analyses that aid the business in understanding current and future product needs and growth opportunities.
  • Assist in the Development of a global strategic plan and roadmap for product portfolios, incorporating product line maintenance and retirement. Prioritize products and features as determined by the business, customers, and market needs.
  • Create and present product concepts including competitive analysis, market analysis, business case, clear customer requirements, identify customer issues/problems and detail feature differentiation.
  • As the product expert, provide assistance to Sales, Marketing and Product Support to help maintain momentum throughout the entire product life cycle. Including pricing and route to market strategies.
  • Dedicate time on the water to evaluate current and new products as they progress through development. Benchmark performance against the relevant competitive set.
  • Coordinate product setup activities, including part creation, initial forecasting, sample management, marketing material review, out-of-box audits, etc.
  • Coordinate product launch activities. Collaborate with sales and marketing to develop effective launch materials that include details on segmentation focus, target consumer messaging and positioning of the Raymarine offering within the competitive set.
  • Represent MFD products and software within the PLG (quality process), helping determine the critical nature of existing issues and supporting them through until resolution.

Core Competencies:

  • This position is both strategic and technical in nature and requires extensive leisure marine industry experience.
  • An understanding of how electronic systems and products can be deployed on boats, how they are used and factors that influence buying decisions.
  • Market analysis - Understanding market size and segmentation, competitor analysis and the ability to show figures in an easy, understandable format. Ability to analyses data from internal sources, competitor products, and market tends.
  • Good understanding of Software and software feature development
  • Good understanding of Hardware and Mechanics with an appreciation of tooling and Industrial design.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills - ability to present ideas and requirements in a concise logical manger. Ability to communicate at all levels of the company.
  • Understand customer requirements and ability to research customer needs so that they can be translated to improving the customer experience.
  • Ability to create a strategic vision for product portfolio and to go the user experience.
  • Self-motivated, can drive teams to achieve success, be able to work independently and report back progress and issues.

Education and Experience:

  • Must be an experienced boat user with a passion for being on the water, whether a sailor, a sports fisherman or a powerboat user
  • Degree qualified or equivalent.
  • 2-5 years' experience as a Product Manager or relevant business experience
  • A good understanding of consumer electronics with natural interest in new and emerging technologies
  • Working within a product development environment
  • Commercial and/or marketing experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Basic understanding of legal contracts and commercial agreements

This position requires access to export-controlled information or items (i.e. regulated technology or technical data per ITAR/EAR US regulations). Applicants must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
