UCIS is currently seeking an Immigration Specialist to work in the Office of International Services (OIS)

The Immigration Specialist will be a part of the team in OIS that handles student casework and advising at the University of Pittsburgh. Immigration advising on the Student Team includes F and J visa categories. Inherent functions include: (1) advising and assisting international students with regard to complex immigration regulations, as well as personal, social, and/or academic concerns; (2) representing OIS and/or functioning as liaison between OIS and other University schools/departments/divisions, community organizations, and federal agencies (e.g., the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Labor, etc.); (3) responding to inquiries regarding immigration matters; and (4) serving as Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer with authorization to access and report to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident in order to be registered with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of State to carry out the responsibilities of the position. Master's degree required in education, international affairs/education, higher education administration, business administration, public policy, legal studies, or related field. Minimum of 2-3 years' working experience, with 1-2 years' experience in international student advising preferred.

Expectation of excellent oral/written communication skills, problem-solving skills, and customer service skills. Experience working with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Knowledge and experience working with various software programs and student systems/on-line application systems. Foreign language proficiency/fluency helpful. Study and/or work abroad a plus. Immediate supervisor is the Assistant Director of OIS' Student Team, who reports to the Associate Director of OIS. Will work independently with limited supervision.

Minimum of 2-3 years' working experience, with 1-2 years' experience in international student advising preferred. Must be able to be certified with the Federal government as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).
