Temporary, full-time intern position to support Community Affairs and Philanthropy staff with community outreach for vegetation management, charitable giving, and employee volunteerism in a learning capacity. ITC's community commitments extend well beyond providing reliable electricity. Interested individual will assist CAP representatives in developing long-lasting relationships and partnerships with communities we serve. Selected individual will gain valuable experience in the area of customer service dealing with questions and inquiries from landowners, community leaders and agency representatives while shadowing the Customer Relations Representative. Practical work assignments will include utilizing GIS and other information-based programs to locate ITC structures, determine site elevations, road crossings and natural features required to complete permit applications. Applicant will assist in the development of educational outreach materials with the potential of participating in classroom training sessions before elementary and middle school students.


  • Assist with internal and external community engagement programs.
  • Support Right Tree Right Place presentations.
  • Develop education and outreach materials.
  • Support community outreach for vegetation management efforts.
  • Provide backup support for the ITC Customer Line.
  • Support charitable giving and employee involvement programs.
  • Support Maintenance/Vegetation Management Permit submissions including: Wood Pole Replacement and Vegetation Management.
  • Research, populate and submit permits required to work on MDOT property - with oversight of Permit Specialist.
  • Attend internal and external meetings, conferences, and events which may be scheduled for early mornings, evenings or weekends.


  • Current enrollment in a post-secondary education program, such as but not limited to: Business, Education, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Political Science, or Public Administration.
  • Sincere desire to make a positive impact at ITC and on the communities it serves.
  • Possesses strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to accept instruction and work in a team environment.
  • Possesses the ability to write clear, comprehensive business documents.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
