Job Description:

The Risk Management Intern position is responsible for participation in a 12 week (40 hours/week) Intern Program with specific emphasis on learning the primary responsibilities of various risk positions. Interns will actively participate in the assigned group intern project. This position will receive an hourly wage of $17 per hour, plus a $250 starting bonus.

This internship is designated for a Student Fellow participating in the Kansas State University Center for Risk Management Education and Research Program.

POSITION REPORTS TO: SVP - Risk Management

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

1. Promote Farm Credit Services of America/Frontier Farm Credit through various public activities.
2. Research industry information
3. Learn general office procedures.
4. Attend team meetings and participate, if applicable.
5. Complete special projects assigned by the leader.


Risk Management-
1. Assist in analyzing data and information in innovative ways to make strategic decisions, balance portfolio risk, and optimize process efficiencies
2. Gain understanding of the resources and techniques used to create risk management reporting
3. Observe communications and decision making on various risk management functions and overall enterprise risk assessments.
4. Gain understanding of the resources and techniques used to analyze segments of the portfolio
5. Gain exposure to the tools / technology used for loan origination and account management decision
6. Gain understanding of the resources and techniques used to create, validate and implement lending decision strategies for use in an application processing system
7. Exposure to the credit review function and how it is used as a control and loan administration assessment. Participate in a marketplace credit review.


JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Characteristics of an ideal candidate include: Self motivated, fast learner, customer service orientated. Completed at least 3 years of college coursework including basic computer classes. Duties require:

• Understanding of agricultural production from education or experience.
• Demonstrated competence in decision-making and problem solving.
• Possess advanced credit skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and effectively demonstrate team building attitude and skills.
• Proficient in Windows environment using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to reason, judge, compare, calculate, evaluate and critique such information as written materials, numerical data, responses to customer needs and/or other work related activities.
• Ability to complete work in an acceptable timeframe and manage a variety of detailed tasks and responsibilities simultaneously and with accuracy to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives and satisfy internal and external customer needs related to the job.
• Ability to operate telephone and respond to calls and in-person inquiries.
• Ability to move about the office with occasional reaching and bending.
• Ability to successfully interact with and represent the organization to staff, officers, board members, customers, and the public at all levels.
• Ability to use a keyboard and computer. This involves reading the screen and keying/typing information.
• Ability to travel by auto or commercial transportation to carry out essential responsibilities
