The Job

We are looking for an experienced video editor with a passion for narrative storytelling and a passion for ambitious and original journalism to work with our award winning investigative team. Were a small team, so we need someone who can work both independently and collaboratively, has high-output organizational skills and able to weave video, audio, data analysis, graphics, documents and other elements into a finished polished product for publication. The successful candidate will bring journalistic integrity as well as cinematic and graphic skills. This is a full-time role based in our Washington DC office.

KEY ACTIVITIES:

  • Edit investigations, special projects or other video content generated by the investigative team for use on multiple platforms.
  • Set a high standard in video editing, 2D/3D motion graphics, effect compositing, color correction, and audio sweetening for a national audience.
  • Schedule and record voice tracks in the sound studio.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop project specific visual styles and techniques to enhance storytelling and creating outstanding audio visual experiences.
  • Manage media assets and project archiving systems
  • Compress final projects to a variety of formats
  • Manage content deliverables to the respective destinations.
  • Manage and update stock video, sound effects and music libraries.
  • Develop post production workflows as needed.
  • Research and recommend post production hardware and software needs.
  • Provide creative overview, guidance and/or training for other video editors at the bureau.

  • Build and help with production of marketing and promotional materials

  • Bring excitement and creativity to building engaging, impactful narrative-driven investigations.

Education & Experience / Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, film production or equivalent experience required
  • 5-7 years editing experience
  • 5-7 years graphic experience
  • Two years post production supervisory experience a plus

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency/Expert level knowledge in non-linear video editing and related software to include Premier Pro, After Effects and Photoshop
  • Advanced knowledge of digital workflows
  • Maintenance of digital asset management systems
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively and always creatively
  • Work well under pressure in a team environment and able to juggle multiple editing and/or graphics projects
  • Manage deadlines and delivery schedule
  • Production experience including shooting and lighting

Work Environment:

  • Collaborative
  • Travel not required
  • Overtime, weekend and/or holiday work may be required
