The Office of Research Integrity and Compliance in the West Virginia University Research Office is seeking a Project Coordinator. This positioncoordinates compliance with federal, state, and WVU research policies and regulations by maintaining data integrity via databases and website maintenance, and evaluating Human Subjects Research Protocols, either Exempt or Expedited, when needed.


In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:


  • Oversee, coordinate and enforce University-wide Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) policy and Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) training; document and facilitate training when necessary.

  • Review and approve human research protocolssubmitted that may fall under the exemption categories or NHSR.

  • Pre-screen human research protocols that can be reviewed as expedited, amendments, using the Kuali Coeus (KC) electronic research administration system.

  • Identify personnel on applicable NIH/NSF grants who are being paid by the grant, to ensure that all individuals being paid by applicable grants are trained via online CITI courses and/or WVU courses.

  • Administer training programs for CITI and KC electronic Research Administration (eRA) system.

  • Assist in the organization, maintenance, and update of the ORIC website and public forms as necessary.


  • Master's degree in social science, life science or related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • At least one (1) year of the following:

    • Thorough knowledge of federal and local regulations on human subjects research

    • Experience in formal written correspondence, general SOP and policy writing, and editorial skills

    • Electronic communication and database skills

    • Monitoring clinical research and experience dealing with IRB administration
  • Ability to understand the Code of Federal Regulations as they relate to human research protections and the responsible conduct of research, and to implement them as needed for research projects and review

  • Working understanding of research protocols submitted for human research protections review

  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure when deadlines necessitate immediate action

  • Ability to listen carefully and work with individuals who need assistance with any or all aspects of their research protocols
