The E.W. Scripps Company, an enterprise media company, is seeking a Lead Analyst, Data Management. The individual will play a key role in executing the companys data strategies by developing data pipelines using various ETL/programming technologies, creating data bases and data workflows, conducting data analysis and debugging technical and/or data issues. Included are also daily operations support, creating system documentation and the development of master data for the Companys enterprise analytics data warehouse. This position will be located in Cincinnati, OH.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with analytics business partners to analyze business needs, data sources and develop technical data pipeline solutions to ingest raw data into data warehouse tables
  • Write new or modify existing code and conduct complete end to end QA tests on data and data pipelines
  • Collaborate with the business analytics team to analyze, resolve and put in place corrective measures to maintain data accuracy and integrity in support of strategic analytics applications
  • Leverage appropriate coding languages, python and serverless technologies to create and maintain data pipelines
  • Build processes in Snowflake data warehouses to wrangle massive amounts of data files and/or data records
  • Work with SQL databases, APIs, flat files, web scrape and other methods to obtain and ingest raw data
  • Write transformation logic on raw data and subsequently create semantic layers to publish data in a form suitable for consumption by business users and BI visualization tools
  • Design databases, tables, views, stored procedures as needed to fulfill the pipelines end to end processing requirements
  • Performance tune processes and/or arrive at new techniques to ensure data processing is meeting all business and technical expectations
  • Identify workflow/system improvements and work with the team to enact change to improve process and/or operational efficiencies
  • Debug pipeline issues / problems, update code and promote the code into production
  • Proactively resolve pipeline and/or source vendor issues before end users are affected, conduct root cause analysis and create corrective action plans to avoid future occurrences of such issues
  • Develop APIs to enable business and/or other systems consumption of published data
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of existing process workflows, data base designs and production of various data outputs that support the analytics business applications
  • Create and maintain pipeline process documentation and recovery procedures on how to resume failed pipeline processing
  • Consult with and assists other programmers to analyze, schedule and implement new or modified workflows
  • Continue education via formal training classes and/or self-paced tutorials to keep skills current with evolving technologies and techniques
  • Provide 24/7 support in an on-call rotation

Education and Experience / Certifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, management information systems (MIS) or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of hands-on pipeline analysis and development working with SQL databases, big data repositories / data warehouses and conducting full end to end QA on data and data pipeline processes

Skills and Abilities:

  • Outstanding technical analysis, critical thinking, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to write code using common scripting languages such as SQL, Python, PHP, R and/or other OS scripting languages
  • Experience with ETL technologies and/or pipeline building
  • Expertise with SQL, Snowflake, SQLServer, MySQL including data troubleshooting, building complex queries, table joins and views working with multiple tables and big-data concepts
  • Expertise in creation of data bases, tables and DDLs
  • Experience building applications or pipelines with serverless technologies like Azure data factory, data bricks or AWS serverless platform
  • Outstanding MS Excel skills including ability to use advanced formulas, nested if statements, pivot tables and conduct full data analysis of pipelined data
  • Experience with BI application development, system administration or infrastructure management a plus
  • Experience with RapidMiner workflow development or other data science technologies a plus
  • Proficient with process workflow mapping and business process improvement
  • Professionalism in dealing with all levels of management, peers, project stakeholders and vendors
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to balance multiple demands and work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high volume, deadline-driven environment
  • Position requires individual to be on-site at the home office
  • Occasional telecommuting possible with managers approval
