  • Assists Supervisor with monitoring and directing of daily workload of Abstraction area, ensuring performance standards are met. Makes adjustments to workload as needed

  • Supports supervisor and management team with various projects and assignments.

  • Monitors calls to observe employee demeanor, technical accuracy, and conformity to company policies.

  • Resolves issues and addresses customer questions and or complaints.

  • Trains all new staff on Medical Review and Data abstraction as needed.

  • Identifies continuous learning needs and develops and implements plans to address identified learning needs.

  • Responsible for the monitoring and all aspects of the Abstraction process.

  • Resolves escalated issues and addresses customer complaints.

  • Enter all relevant data into appropriate systems; maintains timely data entry throughout entire Abstraction Process.

  • Subject Matter Expert for all Abstraction types and their various processes.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by TRICARE Operations Supervisor.

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

  • Medical terminology and/or transcription certification or coursework strongly preferred.

  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; works well in group problem solving situations; maintains a calm demeanor in difficult situations.

  • Responds promptly to customer needs; solicits customer feedback to improve service; responds to requests for service and assistance; meets commitments.

  • Speaks clearly and persuasively in a variety of situations under varying circumstances; listens and obtains clarification.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills essential. Flexibility to work with a diverse group of personnel of all levels with tact and diplomacy.

  • Advanced organizational skills required.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities. Deadline oriented.

  • Contributes to building a positive team spirit.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).


  • Three years prior demonstrated abstraction experience in a healthcare or insurance environment. Directly related or relevant transferable skills may be considered for this position.

  • Experience preparing cases for medical review, medical terminology and quality assurance practices preferred.

  • Previous workload management experience strongly preferred.
