JOB DESCRIPTION

Lead Engineers (LE) at Schneider Electric are highly motivated and pragmatic individuals who demonstrate excellent communication and relationship skills coupled with deep technical knowledge of the customer process as well as the Schneider Electric and AVEVA offers. They can understand complex industrial problems and can overcome diverse obstacles to design, develop and realize creative and effective solutions.

This position involves designing and developing Smart Factory applications by integrating Schneider Electric and AVEVA software packages. The LE will digitize lean manufacturing processes to enable data-driven performance improvements in customers' discrete manufacturing environments. AVEVA's Discrete Lean Management ("DLM") will be the primary software package being used, but other packages from AVEVA's suite may also be leveraged, such as Historian, Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Teamwork, and HMI/SCADA packages. It is not expected that the candidate has expertise in all these packages on day one.

The ideal candidate will have significant lean manufacturing domain expertise and experience. The LE will work directly with the customer throughout their digital transformation journey to help them improve productivity and analyze performance. They may join the sales team as a consultant to help design a solution tailored to each customer's needs. The LE will gather all required data and develop the applications in-house. Finally, the LE will travel to the customer site to commission the system and train the users. Application Engineers (AE) may assist with any of these tasks depending on the project-specific needs. The LE will work alongside a Project Manager throughout the process.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work in conjunction with sales to consult with the customer and gather requirements
  • Design a solution within the confines of the Schneider Electric & AVEVA Smart Factory offer.
  • Develop AVEVA Discrete Lean Management ("DLM") applications including the 4 core modules
    • Andon - production issues
    • Performance - labor and equipment effectiveness
    • Work Instructions - digital work instructions and training
    • Work Order Management - digital work order management and reporting
  • Develop other applications as required. These could include but are not limited to:
    • AVEVA Historian (Wonderware Historian) and Insight
    • AVEVA Teamwork
    • AVEVA Edge (formerly Indusoft)
    • AVEVA MES
    • Schneider Electric Ecostruxure Augmented Operation Advisor
    • Schneider Electric Ecostruxure Secure Connect Advisor
  • Oversee application development by application engineers as needed
  • Server setup and software configuration onsite
  • Troubleshoot communications to devices
  • Commission the system onsite
  • Train operators on the use of the system and monitor for opportunities to improve
  • Version Control Software
  • Attend internal and customer design meetings
  • Collaborate and succeed within a diverse team
  • Use QA/QC tools and processes

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • 6 years of experience in implementing digital lean tools for discrete manufacturing environments
  • Expert proficiency in the implementation of Lean tools such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, Kanban, 5S, Root Cause Analysis, Workshop Management, and KPI's
  • Experience in designing and implementing HMI or SCADA applications, preferably with AVEVA Edge (Indusoft)
  • Experience in designing and implementing MES applications, preferably with AVEVA MES.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting industry standard communication protocols such as OPC and Modbus TCP/IP
  • Knowledgeable in computer networking architectures, topologies, and hardware
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft operating systems and software applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Team oriented, self-motivated, and results driven
  • Strong problem solving and detective skills
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft SQL Server
  • Knowledgeable in computer programming languages (C#, VB, C )
  • Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high quality solutions
  • Ability to multi-task and handle conflicting priorities
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites up to 50%

This position requires presence at customer sites, and as such, candidate must be able to obtain necessary clearance and/or credentials to travel abroad and comply with customer requirements for executing work on their site. The types of credentials that might be required include, but are not limited to, passports, Homeland Security clearance, drug and alcohol, background, and credit checks, etc.
