Summary



The Manufacturing Technician Apprentice-Level 1 is an entry level, union/hourly winery operator position within the Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship Program (MT Program). The MT Program prepares the apprentice to advance to a journey level Manufacturing Technician in 3 years and involves fundamental learning and skills development by various mediums, including classroom, lab and on-the-job-training. The Apprentice performs machine operations, changeover and minor maintenance techniques, further developing the apprentice's knowledge, problem-solving, and technical abilities as they progress through the MT Program. It is fully expected that at the conclusion of the MT Program, the apprentice with minimal supervision, will be performing journey level machine center operations, changeover, total production maintenance (TPM) and all required ancillary tasks associated with the packaging machine(s) and their production line(s) to which an apprentice is assigned. The apprentice is subject to all provisions of the Manufacturing Technician Apprentice Program.





Essential Functions



This job description reflects managements assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.



  • Performs baseline skills, required to operate a minimum of three major equipment centers, including a rinser.

  • A progressing Manufacturing Technician apprentice will cross train on a multitude of equipment centers within a Department, to include different lines and product packaging, e.g. glass, polyethylene terephthalate, cans, bag n the box.

  • A progressing Manufacturing Technician apprentice will be required to complete a series of educational courses in addition to on-the-job-training throughout the 3-year duration of the program. (Satisfactory progression in the apprenticeship program requires the successful completion of these courses).

  • Participates in line changes as required.

  • Rotates between equipment centers as required.

  • Performs job duties of a General Winery Worker or General Labor Worker as needed.

  • Uses hand tools designated for operators.

  • Learns, retains and performs new skills and processes as introduced to equipment center operations.

  • Follows company safety procedures, quality and GMP standards.

  • Operates production equipment as required.

  • Participates in the setup and re-supply of several different production lines.

  • Inspects and performs capacity checks on all packages on all lines.

  • Performs fill point changes on all packages on all production fillers.

  • Operates the case former.

  • Participates in miscellaneous material handling duties with the use of a clamp or lift truck.

  • Performs rework of all packages.

  • Performs complete GMP line cleanup after a production run on all lines.

  • Performs hazardous material labeling.

  • Responsible for minor servicing and repair on certain production equipment.

  • Performs operator safety training.

  • Participates in special projects or assignments as required.

  • Responsible for dumping glass on applicable production lines and packages.

  • Responsible for following reclaim procedures.

  • Responsible for understanding and executing instructions on ADP work orders.

  • Provides support for Company goals in cost reduction and customer service.

  • Performs all essential functions at an acceptable level

  • Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.

  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations.

Minimum Qualifications



  • High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate.

  • 18 years of age or older

  • Required to pass WorkKeys Assessments with a minimum score:

  • Required to work any shift or any day of the week as needed.

  • Required to comply with company GMP policies.

  • Mechanical aptitude and dexterity required.

Preferred Qualifications



Consumer Beverage manufacturing work experience preferred.



Prior packaging machinery operations experience.



Completion of career technical education (CTE) training.



Experience with human machine interface (HMI).



Basic computer aptitude.



Bottling operational knowledge.

  • Standing and walking up to 90 percent of the workday.

  • Pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, handling and grasping, twisting/turning.

  • Lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds with torso rotation and neck movement occurs on an occasional basis.

  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds occasionally.

  • Lifting maximum of 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to perform job duties at elevated heights.
