Our Automotive Platforms Team is looking for a low-to-mid level Android Embedded C++ software engineer to develop the next generation Android platform. The software engineer will be part of a dynamic Agile team designing, improving, enhancing, and optimizing next generation software. You will also be a versatile software engineer that has a vast interest in Automotive connectivity, Automotive Entertainment Systems, In-Vehicle Infotainment systems, Cameras, Clusters and/or other vehicle systems.

We are looking for a full-time Senior C++/Embedded Android/Linux Developer for our office in Chandler, AZ. In this role, you will develop software in C++ for Linux and the Android framework using scripting languages such as Python for test automation and integration and work collaboratively with other Garmin associates and Garmin partners. Other essential functions include:

  • Proposes and implements software designs for new functionality as part of a software project team

  • Ability to prototype and provide Proof of Concepts

  • Participation in a scrum team(s)

  • Collaborates and adds value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions

  • Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques

  • Performs technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems

  • Experience with Agile.

  • Expertise and passion in trunk-based development and good understanding of (SDLC) Software Development Lifecycle

  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced software engineers

  • Estimate level of effort, evaluate new technologies

  • Apply Garmins Mission Statement and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeed



Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Math or Physics or a technical field (such as CIS or IT) from a four-year college or university AND a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher. Other requirements include:

  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)

  • Demonstrates proficiency with designing well-architected software systems and modules that support new technology or improve capability/performance of existing functionality

  • Must possess relevant experience and/or training in data structures or object-oriented design methodology relevant to Garmins business needs

  • Must demonstrate proficiency and possess experience necessary to develop moderately complex software in C++

  • Must demonstrate competence with researching problems and implementing appropriate algorithmic solutions

  • Demonstrated capability to offer peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs

  • Must possess relevant education and/or experience in software design, development and maintenance, as required for the successful performance of the essential functions of the position

  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge and utilization of engineering tools necessary for successful performance of the essential functions of this job description

  • Demonstrates mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficient in C++, experience with embedded systems, OO development, experience with Linux/Android, AOSP, Android HAL

  • Experience programming on ARM/Intel multi-core processors

  • Experience with Hypervisors and Android Containers

  • Experience using tools such as Jira and Git.

  • Wi-fi, BT (Bluetooth), V2V, V2X, IoT, Ethernet, Ethernet AVB, CAN, Diagnostics, Functional Safety (ISO26262), Connectivity, video / audio codecs, video acceleration/compositing/streaming and optimization, augmented reality and experience developing for consumer products is highly preferred!
