Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Maintenance Technician II will install, maintain and repair machinery, equipment, physical structures and other systems at the 3M Red Wing plant.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Inspect and test machinery and equipment in order to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with machine operator or supervisors to diagnose problem or repair machine.
  • Dismantle defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts. Order replacement parts as needed and maintain inventory of common replacement parts.
  • Install, diagnose, and repair electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
  • Perform millwright tasks such as moving equipment, material and machinery using standard methods of lifting, rigging, hoisting, blocking, skidding, and rolling.
  • Install, diagnose and repair pneumatic controls such as valves, cylinders, accumulators, and connections.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance program by cleaning and lubricating shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery central to optimal machine performance. In addition, documents preventative maintenance activities.
  • Repair and maintain physical structure of establishment, including snow removal, HVAC and compressed air systems.
  • Operate cutting torch, plasma cutter, or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts as well as uses mill, lathe and other shop equipment to fabricate and repair basic machine parts.
  • Able to lift 40 lbs. unassisted
  • Participate in Idea Card program and Continuous Improvement activities and generating ideas for improvements.
  • Take every effort to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Report any hazard, accident, injury or near-miss immediately to supervisor or Lead.
  • Take every reasonable precaution under the circumstances to prevent an accident or injury from occurring. Safety is the priority of everyone. If uncertain about the safety of any task or job assignment, consult with Supervisor.
  • Safety Team Members: Conduct daily area inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective actions. Communicate employee concerns to leadership. Serve as Safety Champions and lead by example.
  • Other duties may be assigned or required by the Supervisor or Leads.

This position may require:

  • Weekend work
  • Working overtime
  • Working on holidays as needed
  • Call in and short notice shift coverage

Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess a H.S. Diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Minimum three (3) years of maintenance experience in a private, public, government or military environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with operating Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIVs)
  • Associates degree or vocational program work in industrial maintenance technology
  • Industrial automation experience including PLC / RTU / SCADA
  • Experience in diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic principles
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints
