Manager, Category Insights andAnalytics - Consumer Business

We are looking for an entrepreneurial-minded innovator and critical thinker to join our Sales Strategy organization located in Atlanta, GA. This position will report to the Director, Portfolio Capability and support that capability within Sales while also supporting the Pricing Science Capability lead. This individual will leverage advanced analytical solutions developed by our Pricing Science team to generate insights and drive optimized category decisions. This high-visibility role will have significant breadth in its cross functional touch points and engage all classes of trade.

GPs state-of-the-art, Pricing Science capability combines techniques from data and decision sciences to build, scale and socialize our PRISM platform, a set of advanced mathematical models designed to inform our pricing and portfolio decisions. This unique and exciting opportunity encompasses two distinct roles:

  • Act as a liaison for the Portfolio Strategy, Category Management and Pricing Science teams by staying abreast of/contributing to the enhancement of the PRISM analytics platform.
  • Leverage model assets to generate insights and solutions across categories for presentation to both internal and external partners.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Act as a champion of the PRISM platform (an internally-developed machine-learning model) to drive data-driven decisions in areas such as pricing, promotion, etc for Georgia Pacific categories.
  • Make recommendations to Pricing Science team to help continuously improve PRISM by addressing statistical issues (e.g. variable design and transformations, post processing), and proposing improvements to existing algorithms (e.g. develop prototypes, run experiments)
  • Collaborate with Portfolio Capability Director to build tools (e.g. visualization tools, simulations) to enable efficient mining of model outputs, translate of outputs into insights, and effectively communicate business insights and recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Leverage existing tools to build a knowledge base around key market trends, category dynamics, own and cross price elasticities and help successfully execute against opportunities identified across retailers, markets, categories and product segments.
  • Be an agent of change by identifying opportunity gaps in knowledge and working with retail partners to evaluate/address questions via robust analysis, research and/or experiments.
  • Scale and deploy pricing tools/metrics and train field users in order to maximize capability at local levels.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional partners such as Category Management, Sales, Customer Investment and Customer Planning to clearly understand vision and priorities while understanding the implications of category recommendations across retail landscape.
  • Exhibit principled entrepreneurship by challenging the status-quo, unlocking PRISMs full potential through new techniques, approaches and data sources to improve quality of tools, insights and recommendations.

What Will You Need?

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or higher
  • Familiarity with statistics and data mining techniques
  • 3 years of CPG or Retail experience with exposure to category management, sales strategy or customer management
  • Proficiency in syndicated data tools such as IRI, Nielsen, etc.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills and ability to influence a wide variety of internal/external stakeholders at all organizational levels
  • Strong appetite for learning, innovation, open to challenge with new ideas and established approaches.

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering or a related field
  • Proficiency with advanced MS Excel and data visualization software (e.g. Tableau, QlikView, etc.)
  • Expertise with practical application of statistics and data science techniques especially in CPG/Retail space (e.g. regression, clustering, time series)
