Position Description

Primary Purpose:

  • Support Kinder Morgan's efforts in maintaining heavy equipment in the terminals business unit. This includes providing support in deploying, maintaining and acquiring assets.
  • Support Technical Support Group's (TSG) efforts for standardization of all Kinder Morgan Terminals (KMT) assets including selection, care, and utilization to ensure that the proper assets are in place, fully utilized to yield the highest efficiency and lowest total cost of ownership while meeting our Safety, Quality, and Environment initiatives and Core Principles.
  • Oversee the proper application, specification, standardization, maintenance and repair of the Regions' heavy equipment assets per approved CMMS, Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs), Technical Memo's and OEM recommendations.
  • Manage heavy equipment asset utilization to an appropriate level based on internal projections and Industry Standards.
  • Manage and audit KM standards as supported and implemented by TSG.
  • Establish working relationships with OEM regional representatives and their franchise dealers.
  • Provide oversight and quality control (QC) for heavy equipment application and utilization.
  • Provide input on short and long term facility asset integrity programs (5 year facility plans) as required by TSG.
  • Liaison between Regions Management, Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, EH&S, Training and Procurement departments to carry out the job's Primary Purpose.

Responsibilities:
  • To uniformly work with Regional Management, Operations, EH&S, Training and Procurement departments to carry out the job's Primary Purpose.
  • Work in conjunction with the Regional Management and TSG to develop and implement standardized fixed and mobile asset maintenance practices through participation and development of SMP, Technical Memos, all other programs and initiatives while ensuring applicability to KM policies.
  • Prepare and analyze CMMS Data Reports for compliance to company set standards, requirements, and directives.
  • Lead equipment failure root cause analysis and capture trends.
  • Understand and utilize where applicable new and existing OEM and allied equipment National Agreements.
  • Continuous care and improvement of company assets.
  • Understand and report operating and ownership costs of regional assets as comparable to like equipment across entire business unit.
  • Oversight and guidance to facility plans update, review, and application to current budget and next year budget development and preparation.
  • Provide support to Terminal Management on replacement and Expansion Project asset selection and justification per KMT guidelines.
  • Managed the lifecycle of over 1000 pieces of construction equipment, cranes, to include acquisition, redistribution, and asset disposal
  • Provide management with a budget analysis of rentals and repairs.
  • Perform purchase analysis on equipment purchases to validate
    product selection and pricing saving
  • Manage the national accounts and business relationships, to include conflict resolution, for major equipment manufacturers and vendors nationwide.
  • Managed fleet utilization and reliability analytics to proactively identify problems and opportunities

Position Requirements

Education Requirements:
Minimum requirements and any additional preferred education or training:

  • GED or High School Diploma required with minimum 10 years industry specific experience. Bachelors of Science degree in Technical or Management discipline preferred.
  • Diploma or Certificate of Completion from accredited Vocational / Trade School for Automotive, Truck, Diesel Engine, Heavy Equipment MRO preferred.

Job Requirements:
Minimum experience, skills, knowledge, certifications, licenses, competencies, working conditions:
  • Knowledge of construction equipment, cranes, diesel engines and heavy equipment.
  • 3 Years management of fleet of Cranes, Construction Equipment, Heavy-Duty Trucks or Mining Equipment. Comparable work experience with relevant equipment OEM in application or product support.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Demonstrate skills in Microsoft Office Suite applications. Capable of learning and becoming proficient with the use of computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Willing to travel out-of-town with overnight stays for extended periods of time. Occasional weekend work required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in dusty and noisy conditions with ability to climb and work at heights during inspection, troubleshooting and repairs of company assets.
  • Carry a company provided laptop computer.
  • Capable of being on call evenings and weekends.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
  • Basic understanding of locomotives, power generation, conveying systems and compressed air systems.
  • Basic knowledge of electronics, hydraulics and components used in the operation and control of bulk/liquids process equipment, modern mobile construction equipment, cranes, and other industrial processes.
