POSITION SUMMARY


The Sourcing Manager is responsible for defining and implementing sourcing plans for raw materials specific to secondary fiber used in paper mills and other manufacturing operations in the US and Canada. This position creates and executes RFPs, manages supplier performance to contracts, identifies competitive supplier options and works with USGs Corporate Innovation Center and Plants to identify substitute raw materials. The Manager negotiates pricing and contracts, coordinates directly with Plant Managers and Production Planners, and addresses and escalates supplier performance issues. This position works as part of a team of 9 and reports to the Manager, Sourcing. Occasional travel (15%) is required to manufacturing operations and suppliers.



KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Manages the sourcing plans for between 10-15 commodity lines, with total expenditures of approximately $100 million annually.


Manages supplier performance, and is the primary relationship manager to approximately 25 suppliers.


Drive bottom line results through collaboration with the mills, sourcing strategies, supplier management, and external business partnerships with a relentless pursuit of driving out cost.


Thorough knowledge of secondary fiber grades, what they mean, and some clear technical rules of how it impacts production and quality.


Ability to know what tradeoffs could be made when supplies were constrained or opportunities to save money were presented.


A constant analysis of what was going on with global markets and other competition for the secondary fiber supply and the ability to manage in a timely and appropriate way to keep a consistent secondary fiber supply in place.


Familiarity with regional differences in generation and usage for secondary fiber.


Knowledge of national secondary fiber generators/brokers (what industries generate what types of wastepaper and how much, who controls supply).


Knowledge of how other paper mills/companies purchase wastepaper and experience developing strategies to minimize cost.


Leads cross functional teams through the procurement process; identifies fragmented spend and consolidates and creates procurement leverage for USG.


Identifies competitive supplier options and creates and executes RFPs for assigned commodities.


Works with USGs Corporate Innovation Center and Plants to identify substitute raw materials.


Achieves annual cost reduction goals while maintaining or improving product quality and supplier service levels.


Negotiates with suppliers to meet quality, delivery, and cost objectives.


Establishes and maintains excellent relationships with all levels of supplier personnel and internal customers.


Solicits feedback regarding existing Agreement & Supplier performance.


Identifies opportunities and leads Continuous Improvement projects to achieve savings and efficiencies.


Performs analytical and data management analysis on Supplier Performance, Spend, and Supply.


Act as liaison between centralized procurement team and the mill to share information about projects, needs and priorities.


Actively participate with the mill leadership team to drive overall business unit results





JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education


  • B.A. or B.S degree (Business; Engineering, Supply Chain; or related field) required.

Years of Experience


  • 10 + years of procurement, supply chain, project management or related experience.

  • Pulp and Paper Mill experience preferred. Industrial/manufacturing experience required.

  • Oracle business software knowledge preferred
