Georgia-Pacifics Containerboard mill in Brewton, AL is seeking qualified individuals to consider for their Manufacturing Engineer Power and Recovery position. The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for reliability and operational strategies for the mills Power and Recovery assets and work closely with maintenance, engineering, pulp mill, and paper machine departments. This position reports to the Utilities Production Area Leader.

The Brewton facility is an integrated pulp/paper mill that produces products for two different business segments. It is in south central Alabama about an hour from Mobile, AL, Pensacola, FL, and the beautiful beaches of the Gulf Coast. Brewton residents enjoy the outdoors either on the beaches of Florida or by fishing on 1,600 miles of river in Alabama. The hunting trails and bass fishing regularly attract visitors. Alabama is home to many minor league baseball teams and two NCAA Division-I powerhouses. Nearby attractions include the Montgomery Zoo, the Gulf of Mexico and the Blue Angels.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Create and lead an environment where the team achieves zero incidents in Environmental, Health and Safety. Ensure excellence in the areas of chemical process safety and process safety management.

  • Lead and mentor employees to apply MBM in ways that are consistent with our Guiding Principles

  • Lead the effort to identify, investigate, recommend and implement equipmentimprovements, new systems and process changes that will improve productivity, yield, quality and/or reduce costs

  • Execute and optimize Georgia-Pacific reliability and asset strategies for technology center

  • Provide technical expertise and transfer knowledge to facilitate rapid transformation to eliminate root causes failures causing unplanned downtime while sustaining an expedited management of change process.

  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership in the areas of safety, asset reliability, cost optimization, quality capability, productivity, environmental excellence and strategic capital planning and execution

  • Obtain Engineering and Project Management resources on capital improvement projects

  • Position team for year-over-year continuous improvement

  • Interface with Shift Leaders, Technician Capabilities Leader, Skill Developers and operators/technicians to identify and address knowledge and performance gaps in their technical center

  • Work with support personnel resolving short term reliability issues

  • Coordination planning for annual outages while ensuring reliability remains a key focus

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • One or more of the following:

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical field AND 2 years or more of experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or continuous process work environment

    • OrAssociates degree in a Technical field AND 5 years or more of experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or continuous process work environment

    • OrHigh School diploma/GEDAND6 years recovery boiler operations management experience

  • Computer skills with emphasis on Excel, Word, functional databases and data analysis

  • Boiler or Turbine Generator experience

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Pulp and Paper Sciences

  • 2 years or more experience in the specific area of Kraft recovery process

  • 5 years or more Boiler or Turbine Generator experience

  • Proficient in the use of PI ProcessBook or similar application of process monitoring.

  • Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis techniques

  • Basic process control knowledge/experience
