Manufacturing Engineer -Converting

We are currently recruiting for an experienced manufacturing engineer in our Away From Home Tissue (AFH Tissue) product system at Georgia-Pacifics Savannah River Mill. We believe the Savannah River Mill offers a unique opportunity to its team members.




The mill is located in a beautiful part of the country and is close to the coast in Effingham county with some of the best school systems in the state. The mill has established an excellent relationship with its community and participates in many community events. Most of our employees enjoy raising their families here in Rincon, GA. A Day In The Life Typically Includes;



The manufacturing engineer will work closely with both reliability and maintenance departments in the development of long-term asset strategies. This is not an entry level engineer position. This is a key leadership role to ensure that we meet the challenge of improving at a faster rate than our competition.


The successful candidate will exemplify MBM and will advance our culture by ensuring that the organization is aligned and capable of executing long term reliability strategies.



  • Lead the organization toward excellence in Environmental, Health, and Safety and compliance by identifying and resolving critical and high risks.


  • Improve reliability of converting assets by leading the development, implementation, execution and check/adjust of asset strategies for converting assets and resolve high impact operating issues. Some tools include Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Root Cause Failure Analysis, Reliability Process Limits and Precision Maintenance.


  • Lead daily operations of converting assets within technology center by developing operating targets and equipment setup procedures. Assist operators with troubleshooting and review root cause. Ensure assets meet safety, quality, productivity, and cost expectations. Collaborate with other departments such as maintenance, quality and planning to ensure efficient operation.


  • Improve longer term asset performance. Understand the business, mill, and department visions and identify area needs to meet those objectives. Prioritize opportunities and develop a plan to create capability including potential capital and non-capital opportunities. Lead or participate in capital project scope development, engineering, execution, and startup.


  • Provide technical expertise on converting assets and transfer knowledge to other members of the operating team via daily interaction and formal/informal skill building. Develop and implement complete Asset Strategies AFH Tissue converting equipment including: Condition Based Monitoring, Preventative Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, Operating Envelope, Operator Basic Care/Zone Ownership and Spare Parts optimization.

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or higher in an Engineering Discipline OR 10+ years of experience in a Georgia Pacific converting operation and/or converting maintenance role

  • 2+ years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment

  • Microsoft Office experience, including Excel (data gathering and data analysis)

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing or Pulp and Paper Science Engineering Degree

  • Experience in maintenance and reliability engineering

  • 5+ years manufacturing experience

  • Experience in the pulp or paper industry specifically in converting

  • Experience with GP reliability systems; AA Database, PI, Vyntex, PTM, DMSI Maintelligence

  • Experience with Asset Strategy Development, Root Cause Analysis and Failure Modes & Effects Analysis

  • Experience coordinating with the corporate business leaders

  • Experience with authorization and qualification of operators in PSQ system

  • Experience initiating and/or executing capital project

  • Completed or enrolled in Georgia Pacific Reliability Excellence courses
