The Manufacturing Engineering Project Manager will develop, implement and maintain safe, optimal and cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. methods and controls. This role will recommend and implement improvements to production processes.


1. Supports research, design and the development of safe manufacturing processes, including production flow, assembly methods, and production equipment

2. Consults with stakeholders to determine functional and spatial requirements of new structure or renovation, and prepares information regarding design, specifications, materials, equipment, estimated costs and construction time.

3. Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of the facilities property, buildings and equipment

4. Prepares and maintains work instructions, setup instructions, and other related process documentation for shop floor use

5. Designs, develops and tests and/or sources and cost-justifies various tools, machinery and equipment, and refrigerated insulation processes for the safe manufacturing of truck bodies and components

6. Prepares capital projects for new equipment and processes

7. Safely launches machines, process, methods and/or tooling technologies with >99% effectiveness

8. Documents lessons learned and communicates among the Mfg. Engineering discipline

9. Provides technical process expertise for plant and supplier quality issues

10. Performs other related duties as assigned

Expertise Required/ Minimum Qualifications:
1. Experience managing manufacturing startup projects, including: scope development, business case analysis, execution and closeout.

2. Proven track record of successfully completing manufacturing projects on schedule and within budget.

3. Ability to think strategically and plan projects over a 6-12 month horizon

4. Experience with existing manufacturing technologies, including but not limited to: welding, joining, metal working, manual assembly; certification in a field is a plus

5. 5+ years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment, 4+ years of work experience in a comparable industry

6. Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering desired.

7. Experience with factory automation, maintenance, and integrating engineering designs into production - highly desirable

8. Practical Lean principles experience with proven success using the tools

9. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, MS Project, AutoCAD, Minitab

10. Proven ability to facilitate change and knowledge of lean tools and techniques

11. Strong leadership experience and strong team player

12. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral

13. Quality orientation and attention to detail

14. Problem analysis and problem resolution; Green Belt certification, Black Belt a plus

15. This position may require up to 25% travel.


Working in an office environment in a seated position a minimum of eight hours per day is required. At times, this job operates in a manufacturing plant environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
