National Accounts Project Manager - Power Systems

Milton CAT is looking for a Project Manager to service our National Accounts in the Power Systems Division. In this position, there will be training and transition time available to the successful candidate. This role will provide comprehensive management of power generation projects from receipt of purchase order through customer acceptance, which includes timely, cost effective and efficient management of multiple projects to meet customer expectations. This person will organize, schedule, coordinate, and effectively communicate to execute projects.

Our National Accounts include retail clients that purchase several generators and related equipment year over year for both new & existing brick and mortar facilities around the country. Currently, most opportunity is East of the Mississippi River.

In this role, the successful candidate will:

  • Review project specifications / drawings and compare them to the sales order that is submitted by the sales department.
  • Review National Account documentation to maintain compliance with Terms & Conditions, as applicable.
  • For out of territory installations, research local Code requirements (fuel storage, enclosure wind ratings, air emissions, etc.). Milton CAT Sales Manager will assist with introductions to local CAT Dealer key contacts.
  • Prepare technical submittal / drawing package for each installation location.
  • Order all Caterpillar and non-Caterpillar materials and equipment from suppliers, ensuring a timely release and delivery.
  • Monitor the clients' variable construction schedule and adapt as needed to suit the clients' needs.
  • Coordinate the shop upfit of engine generators, when needed.
  • Coordinate delivery of equipment to job sites.
  • Manage the start-up procedures and documentation with contractors, engineers, owners, utility companies, sales staff, and service technicians.
  • Coordinate startup and commissioning of equipment with other CAT Dealerships for out of territory projects.
  • Work closely with Milton CAT Account Manager and effectively communicate difficult situations, should they arise. In partnership with the Milton CAT Account Manager, formulate solutions and communicate to the client.
  • Recognize areas for improvement, efficiency gains, and other strategies that would help to improve Gross Profitability. Work with Milton CAT Account Manager and Sales Manager to implement these strategies.
  • Assist Milton CAT Account Manager with soliciting vendor pricing for one-off projects, as well as routine contract renewal pricing.
  • Monitor project costs and coordinate billing to initiate the invoicing process.
  • Perform on-site job review and attendance of construction meetings with contractors if needed.
  • Provide problem resolution with multiple parties, both technical and financial.
  • Maintain accuracy of all technical and financial aspects of each project to ensure gross profit levels are maintained.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.

  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Technical knowledge of diesel engine, electrical power generation, power distribution including engine generator sets, system integration design, assembly, installation, commissioning, operation, paralleling switchgear and transfer switches, fuel systems, exhaust systems, enclosures, and ancillary equipment. Training available for candidates with foundational knowledge and/or experience.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including construction design drawings.
  • Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding customer expectations.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic fast paced environment.
  • Proficient in the use of a computer and related software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to assess customer needs and evaluate customer satisfaction.
  • High proficiency Adobe Acrobat preferred.
  • Demonstrable experience leveraging external and internal relationships and networks.
  • Self-confidence to work well with various leadership levels (internal and external).
  • Must have and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel as needed. This is typically limited to our Northeast territory but may also include out of territory training & development opportunities and select job site visits.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years project management or engineering/engine related experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or similar technical degree, or an equivalent technical background in electricity, hydraulics, mechanical drives, engines, and / or industrial operations.
  • Project Management, Electrical power, electrician, generator, or reciprocating engine experience preferred.
