Job Summary

Student Success and Transitions is seeking a New Student Programs Assistant Director. Responsibilities include the following:

  • Under the leadership of the Director of Student Success and Transitions, this position oversees and executes the implementation, planning and development of programming for all new students, including all orientation programs and signature events for new and continuing students sponsored by Student Success and Transitions
  • Collaborate and communicate with academic liaisons and other university offices to ensure appropriate communication flow
  • Coordinate all logistics and event planning aspects for NSO and all other SST affiliated events
  • Work with representatives from Student Information Systems (SIS) to coordinate hold processes and the implementation/execution of the entire New Student Communications plan from "intent to enroll" to the first day of classes
  • Collaborate with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to develop marketing and communication schemes to target audiences
  • Produce and share regular reports regarding registrations and attendance for NSO and other programs
  • Create an assessment plan for NSO and other programming, in collaboration with campus experts
  • Teach Freshmen Success Course as needed for one credit hour
  • Hire, train and supervise the Student Success coaches, which could mean a staff of 20+ student employees
  • Create a research based peer-coaching program
  • Maintain the work schedules for the coaches, including calling campaigns, staffing university events, and staffing the coaching lounge and study space
  • Maintain database for Family/Parent Association
  • Create and distribute Family/Parent newsletter and any other communications
  • Serve on university committees
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Masters degree
  • One year of orientation, large-scale programming, or other higher education experience
  • Strong communication, both written and verbal, and organization skills
  • This position requires public speaking, presentations and communication with a diverse group of students, their families, faculty, staff, and the general public
  • Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and awareness of other creative software


  • Experience with Banner and Slate systems
  • Event planning and large-scale programming
